My desier was having a few problems when mainly in satnav it get's hot and re-boots, ended up in a loop of booting and re-booting.
I removed battery let it cool down, but now won't boot past o2 welcome page.
I can get into andriod sub-menu but recovery won't boot either.

    what can i do.

when you say recovery wont boot please explain?
when you go into recovery, it will display a triagle.
at this point hold volume up and press power, you should then see the recovery menu.

however i would imagine the mobo/cpu is cooked and caused some irreparable damage. i would send it to HTC as its a classic symptom that affects the desire.

    Regards

If i can get in to recovery using power and volume done, surley the cpu is ok?

Could it just be corrupted software?

    less load used for recovery.
if it used to reboot due to overheating thats never good.
people have reported this behaviour before and slowly it gets to this point
you could try reflashing o2's RUU while in bootloader but if not just return it to HTC, they will fix it for you
