Odd problem with Hero switching itself off?

I'm a new hero owner and love the phone but I appear to be having a odd problem with random switch offs

Having tried a couple of things I can now confirm the following

- There is no pattern to the switching off

- The phone does not respond to any keys or screen touches so it is definitely switching off

- Plugging the charger in has no effect on the phone and it will not charge when in this state

- Only way to resume any normality is to remove the battery and start again

Phone is stock orange firmware and limited applications on there at the moment.

Only had the phone since January so I assume I can send back to Orange under warranty?

Other than that best phone I have ever had

I've had this a few times recently. Twice I took the battery out and it appeared that the SD card had somehow come out. The last time - earlier today - it seemed secure, but removing the battery and the putting it back solved the problem.

Seemed a bit peculiar to me, but I can't explain it.
