Corning Supplies Gorilla
It sure doesn't feel like hard glass to me...
I saw this report earlier today and was confused whether we already have it or not.
Because when looking at the dell streak torture video and then the Galaxy durability test video I don’t think we have it. Otherwise how can it shatter from a simple fall when it can withstand hard stabbing from a pen like that ?
Maybe this statement is intended for future releases
Samsung Galaxy S durability test
Yep , I wont belive it unless someone puts it through a torture test like that DELL streak
Probably the future stocks for the Galaxy S but i doubt the current stocks now have gorilla glass.. this would be an outrage for the current customers though if the future ones have it
i guess the current versions may have gorilla glass as well (hopefully?).. strong does not necessarily mean it has to be hard.. and i think it is more resistant to scratches and not falls.. and call me paranoid but i would still install a screen protector and not take a chance even if it is confirmed that it is gorilla glass!
btw the guy was going wild in the Dell streak video!! he seemed to be removing all his frustrations on it!
My Galaxy S developed a light scratch from an unknown source. It never shares a pocket with keys or change so whatever scratched it certainly wasn't substantial. I seriously doubt that current/already shipped Galaxy S handsets have this Gorilla Glass. I'll be really pissed off if some handsets have it and mine doesn't.
Got the Captivate on day 1. Scratched the screen with a key and it wont scratch. It has Gorilla Glass.
Same as farook, I've scratch mine within 24 hour. I don't know from where and I've been extra carefull. I have the Canadian i9000 flavor of the SGS.
Maybe it's not every models that have the same build quality
There's no need to speculate whether the SGS has Gorilla glass or not just because some have gotten scratches since Gorilla glass isn't entirely scratch proof, it's just very good. This kind of glass works very well against larger objects but can still be scratched by really small items, like tiny metal shards in your pocket that has fallen off keys etc and that won't go away in the washer. You won't get that kind of shards used in scratch tests either.
I never put metal objects (keys, coins etc) in any other pockets than my right front pocket because I know that this is a risk. I don't have any scratches on my SGS and I've had it since the initial release in Europe.
The SGS has Gorilla glass, it's pointless to try to argue anything else when the manufacturer officially states that it does. It's obvious that they would point out if some SGS's didn't have it as otherwise their product would lose credibility if some had worse glass.
but they forgot to make the home button durable.. LOL
It's not a matter of durable. It's just that all shiny plastic scratches very easily. That's why people still use glass instead of the lighter and cheaper plastic.
Sounds like a screen protector is still a wise choice even though I may be looking through Gorilla Glass.
Same thing as i said.
It's a matter of preference but I would rather recommend a wallet/bag to put it in when you're on the run. Screen protectors never feel as good as the original glass, plus that they make the phone's surface look worse.
If I were Samsung and had gorilla glass in my number one phone, i would advertise this. Can anyone point to an instance of Samsung advertising this or confirming this? Samsung support here in Germany has confirmed that the Galaxy S does NOT have gorilla glass.
Can anyone find a confirmation from Samsung??? I would love to see it...
i was confused as well was told from bell rep at the store it has screen protection was protected so was happy then i saw video Super AMOLED Screen/Gorilla glass
well guess what i had to try it god wish i did not try well looks like screen is NOT scratch proof i repeat get screen protector these gorilla bullshit amoled screen are NOT scratch proof and still waiting for my froyO soon be gingerbread just in time for Xmas i bet not ??good job Samson last phone buy from u and battery is horrible wow not even 7 hours batter life horrible phone and yes i be bitching waiting for unlock for 3gsIPHONE then selling this ugly SGS peace
BTW my iphone has android 2.2 well my galaxys still 2.1 pretty funny and iphone does have adobe flash player soo all u iphone hater out there wasuP
Galaxy S does have the Gorilla glass and it is scratch-resistant.
Unless you make the surface out of diamond, you cannot have a scratch-proof glass. It is, however, a very strong and will not scratch by normal contacts with the keys and coins in the pocket easily. Super AMOLED is so bright that even if you get some minor scratches by sharp objects, you won't notice much when the screen is on. Having said that, I am using the screen protector that came free with my extra batteries just to keep my screen clean a little longer...and why not since it's free!
I can guarantee you that this Gorilla glass on Galaxy S is much more scratch-resistant than any iPhone out there. The battery life is short as you say, but nothing out of ordinary when compared to many other smart phones out there. You can easily get a spare battery and remedy the situation. You can't do that with the iPhones. I hope you find out how to optimize your phones and have better experience like so many happy Galaxy S users out there....now numbering close to 8 millions! ^^
Singsong does not know what he/she is talking about.
Apparently the Galaxy S' DO NOT HAVE TRUE GORILLA GLASS.
I just got back from my local T-Mobile store and all the reps said the Samsung T959 Vibrant Galaxy S- they sold last year does not have the same scratch resistant glass screens as the Iphones. He proved it by comparing it to the HTC HD7 which has true Gorilla Glass. The Vibrant's screen is more plastic than glass. I'm waiting for an official confirmation from Samsung based on my serial number. I will post when I find out.
These screens should not be getting scratched by coins, keys, lint in pockets.
My Iphone never did. Something is sketchy about these screens.
