Also now compatible with ROM Manager....
You can use ROM Manager to flash Clockwork Recovery to your phone, or you can do it the manual way by downloading the zip file and apk below and flashing it to your phone...

    Vibrant Clockwork Recovery
    ROM Manager

    FAQs:
    1) What is clockworkmod recovery?
Clockworkmod recovery is basically a feature added to rooted phones that allows the flashing, backing-up, and restoring of ROMs.

    2) Why do I need clockworkmod recovery?
If you're a person who looks to flash ROMs to their Android phone, you'll need this for several reasons. Clockworkmod recovery allows easy flashing of new ROMs, it allows you to back-up the current ROM in case you do something to mess your phone up, or flash a ROM you don't like. Clockworkmod recovery also allows you to restore and backed up ROM. You can also choose what you want to restore, whether it be boot, system, data, etc...

    3) What is ROM Manager?
ROM Manager is a place where all ROM's for your specific phone can be located, downloaded and flashed. It generally works hand-in-hand with Clockworkmod. ROM Manager stays up to date with the latest ROMs that are submitted to Koush, so those Android fanatics are always up to date.
ROM Manager also has a premium version that can be purchased. This unlocks even more ROMs!!

Tremendous Thanks To: Koush and his hard work!!!

This makes flashing ROMs super easy. When developers start picking up on these phones, ROMs will be coming left and right. Having clockwork recovery makes everything super easy. It's a matter of dragging, dropping and flashing with clockwork. I've had a Droid since December 09 and must've flashed countless ROMs since. Thanks to Koush and clockwork recovery, everything is smoothe and easy. it also makes flashing ROMs compatible, for developers making their own ROMs. Trust me, it's necessary to have this neat feature.

Also Koush has made ROM Manager, which allows you to download ROMs straight to your phone and flash them in clockwork recovery. Those two generally work hand in hand if you don't feel like searching in the forums for a ROM that was recently released.

Thanks a lot, that was very informative. I am pretty good with gadgets and what not, but i only used the G1 for about 2 weeks before i got my vibrant on the 15th so im not that familiar with android os.. i want to get rid of TW because i feel it is too much like iphone. So is there any chance i could just get vanilla froyo if i root...? And if not, what could i do with the rooted phone i cant do with my stock one?

I didn't do this myself, but one of them is the Vanilla for it. I don't like TW much either myself. I "test drove" the Captivate today, and feel it's nice, but not necessary. When I get the Fascinate for VZW, Vanilla will be on mine with LauncherPro Plus. I do encourage you to flash clockworkmod before flashing the vanilla ROM, and do a nandroid back-up.

But is there a advantage of doing this besides getting rid of TW? Because while i like vanilla more than TW, I dont think its worth going through a lot to get rid of it. Is there any way i can get froyo?

If you run Vanilla on your Vibrant you can't get TW back unless you flash the stock ROM back to your phone. I'm going to be testing it a little once I get my hands on a Vibrant or a Captivate. As far as Froyo I haven't heard anything quite as yet. I will check with some friends and see what I can do as far as bringing Froyo to the Galaxy S phones. Keep checking the forums for updates.

I tried doing a system backup but there was an error, so I ended up frozen in recovery mode, so I removed the battery. When I got back into ROM manager it said there was a backup error do to a broken path or something. I apologize for not having a log or anything (I was having a bit of a freakout), but does anyone know what that could have been? I had a rooted G1 for two years without a single problem with ROM manager or clockwork recovery.

You may want to try and contact "Koush" about that issue. I know others aren't having problems with it. You can try this....within ROM Manager, try and reflashing ClockworkMod and see if that helps. If they're other versions, try flashing those as well. Different versions may or may not work on individual phones.

Is there a difference between the terms "ROM" and "firmware", or are they used interchangeably?

ROM is basically a build that a developer made. It can have a few features in it, that the stock ROM wouldn't. Firmware is generally the version of the ROM. An example would be Android 2.1 firmware, and Android 2.2 firmware. Both are obviously different, but they can be made into ROMs. Firmwares however can go deeper than that....example would be Android 2.2 for the Droid 1, has 2 different firmwares.....FRG01 and FRG22. Same Android 2.2 platform, just different versions.....or firmwares.

I hope I clarified that, I started to confuse myself lol

OK, so firmware and rom are really on in the same. People refer to roms as cooked by the developers that are based on stock firmwares. Thanks.

No one is actively maintaining either of the apps (clockword mod and rom manager), so right now the list of bugs has grown to epic proportions - stay away from them for the moment!
