EDIT: Due to a couple of instances of people being bricked using this guide, either by a failed odin connection, or by inadvertently unplugging themselves too soon, I am editing the step 6 "6. make sure repartition, autoreboot, and f.reset are all checked." to "Make sure repartition is UNCHECKED and autoreboot and f.reset are checked." The flash will still work without repartitioning, and I'm hoping that not repartitioning will prevent the bricks.
If you attempt this without repartition checked, and it does not work, then flash with it checked.
    Thank you.

Good evening (somewhere) ladies and gentlemen. In this guide, I'm going to give you 3 step recovery from any situation you run into with this phone. At least, as long as you have a functional usb cable, odin, and download mode. If you don't have these things, buy one, download it, and please tell me how the hell you managed to brick your phone hard enough to erase download mode from the flash drive.

    To begin.
first off, the files I'm going to reference here are for STOCK Froyo. build EC07. This is what Samsung made, but was never released by Verizon. Bloatware, and all. If you are still stock, and your phone screwed up on you, take it back to the store and threaten bodily harm. This guide IS NOT FOR YOU. If you are rooted, and you managed to brick yourself (don't feel bad, I do it about once a month. Crap happens.) Then this guide is for you.

Also, once you do this, you will no longer be rooted. You will have to flash cwm kernel once again, then a rom. We'll go over that at the end.

Oh, yeah. I ain't responsible for what you do to the thing. But, it'll work.

    OK. Let's go.

    First, some links
    Samsung
Samsung drivers. Use these only, please. Generic Galaxy S drivers have a nasty habit of not working.

    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/30171389/Odin3epicv1.3.rar
ODIN. You should have it, if you've rooted using my guide... if not, there it is

    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/30171389/SCH-I400-EC07-FROYO-REL-PRODUCTION.tar.md5
This is the stock froyo file (as the name indicates) it is unzipped and ready to flash. Don't do anything to it.

    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/30171389/Samsung_I500_VZW_PIT.pit
The PIT file that goes with this rom. Don't just pick one up off the street. Use this one.

OK. Now, the what to do section

    1. Make sure the samsung drivers are installed. following the steps given by the installer pack
    2. unzip the odin file to your desktop, then open the program
    3. put your phone into download mode by removing the battery, and holding down the volume down button while plugging it into your computer's usb port.
Make sure you have a 'com' and a couple of numbers in the small box in ODIN, just under a larger box in the upper left. Also, wait a few seconds, if you just installed your samsung drivers. It's detecting and doing final install on them. You'll know its done when you get the little pop up on your notifications telling you the drivers were successfully installed.
    4. click the PDA button in ODIN and choose the SCH-I400-EC07-FROYO-REL-PRODUCTION.tar.md5 and click OK.
    5. click the PIT button and choose Samsung_I500_VZW_PIT.pit
    6. make sure repartition is UNCHECKED, and autoreboot, and f.reset are both checked.
    7. click start.
    8. get a drink. This will take about 5 minutes to get done.
    9. wait until you get "RQT closed" and "Removed" in the dialogue box to the left, along with "pass 1/fail 0" and "PASS" and "RESET" in the box in the upper left. Your phone will also reboot on it's own. Don't worry, it's not posessed.

That's it. You are back up. Let the phone boot, and set it up again.

Hopefully, you have already downloaded and backed up with Titanium backup, before all this happened. If not, have fun with that.

Also, If you have a known good nandroid, and it's EC07, you can flash back to that.

If not, and you want to get back to a deodexed, debloated rom, do the following

    1. after you get your phone set back up, shut it down, and boot back into download. it doesn't matter if you battery is in or out on this one.
    2. hit reset on ODIN, then click PDA and find cwm_adrynalyne_test4.tar, wherever you stashed it.
    3. plug your phone in, and make sure that repartition and autoreboot are UNCHECKED
    4. click start.
    5. after you get the same RQT closed and pass 1/fail 0, along with reset, unplug and boot into recovery by holding vol up down and power until samsung comes on the screen.
    6. get into cwm and flash the deodexed rom
    7. wipe your dalvik, and reboot.

Hope this helps. Post any questions/concerns BEFORE you do anything.

Unfortunately, with odin, it can be unreliable at times. HEIMDALL is more complicated to use, but success rate is much higher. I'll work on a heimdall tutorial for this situation later.

My Continuum I400 is in "hard"bricked mode. I followed another forum using FROYO and my phone isnt working.

I followed your forum but my phone wont go to download w/o battery. It did earlier but not anymore. It works with it in but not for a long time.

I was able to acess the download screen, brick screen, and the CWM screen, but now i cant really get ANY of them.

The link i followed failed to inform me on everything.

I forgot to Back it up but i dont really care for that as long as I can get my phone working again.

    PLEASE help!!!

If I can get it running again than GREAT! If I can get it running with the ROM then SWWWWEEEEETTTNESS!! (thats better than great)
If not then (loading gun) ill end it!!!

    PLEASE PLEASE PLEASEEEE HELP!

If you need more info ill let you know.

I've followed your forum but cant get it..

    IM ANGRY!

Well, if you can get it in dl mode, with battery, then we try that, first. I would also try pulling my battery, without it plugged in, and holding the power key for about 20 seconds. Then, plug the phone in to your computer, and try to get into download mode (holding vol down while plugging in). That might get you download mode back. That will be the key. We need to get you into stable download mode, and get odin or heimdall to read your phone.
The part that is puzzling me is where you say that it goes from download mode to black screen 'really fast' on the other forum... I'd like some clarification on that. I'd also like to know what you meant by you putting it into download mode and it going into cwm on it's own. That isn't possible, since we don't have native cwm. i'd really like to get you into IRC this afternoon so we can communicate more effectively.

    What's that?

It'll be in download mode for about 5 seconds then the screen will go black....

this may sound weird, but it works when i hold the usb up, but not with out that... i think it's from keep on unplugging and plugging! during that process......

    Who know's.
  15. txwolf1980

    txwolf1980 Well-Known Member

possibly, it's hardware related. Have you tried your brother's cord? Or any cord with the same port? Also, i assume you have tried plugging into both wall and computer? If your cord is bad, that would explain the difficulty odin had detecting you.
Try your brother's cord, first. If you have the same issue (I doubt you will), then we'll go from there. I'm in IRC now.
Oh, and my original cord does the same thing. I have to get it just right for it to charge. Hence the reason I'm using my old blackberry cord.

ok i have run into a problem, i tried rooting with odin and now my phone doesnt turn on at all!!!
not even to brick screen, it does still go into download mode for odin and at the moment im trying to do it again with the files you provided but it is stuck on factoryfs.rfs and not moving from there. its been about 20 minutes already... what can be done???
  17. txwolf1980

    txwolf1980 Well-Known Member

Assuming you've followedcthw directions to this point, the first thing I would do is downloaded a fresh copy of the tar file. To make sure there are no corruptions. Then, close out odin withoutvunplugging your phone, and reopen it. Start over with the fresh file. The other option is to close out odin, and try again with the same file. It may go through the second time.

now its not passing sbl.bin....... whats goin on?!?!

correction, it reached recovery.bin, but should it really have taken it 20 minutes to do so?
  19. txwolf1980

    txwolf1980 Well-Known Member

Is this a new download, or the old one? Which usb port are you on? You might try moving to a USB port in the back if you are on a desktop. If that doesn't work, you might try it with heimdall.
  20. frenzifun

    frenzifun Member

it took it 15 minutes to get to recovery.bin
im using a laptop and switched usb ports about 3 times
i have no idea how to use the other program, never have before and cant find a efficient enough tutorial.

Ok. Try pulling the battery and holding power button down for 20 seconds. See if that gets download back. You might also try getting to download with both battery in and out. One other thing. I would use a different cable. Something us telling me that that is part of the issue..
And the tutorial is titled "oh crap I screwed up my phone. The heimdall version"
