I am really trying to understand the widget thing. I see allot of talk about themes and different widgets to use....but I am not sure which is the best for me and the easiest to understand. I reallly want to get the best out of my phone so I NEED and WANT to understand it. I have read many threads on this forum about different home apps but still am not sure how to decide which is best and easiest for me to figure out. I don't mind spending allot of time creating it, (means I get my money's worth out of the thing) and I love computers....and learning new things and hidden tricks that I didn't know were there... Its kind of like finding a hidden treaure or a new toy.

So my question really boils down to this. Is there a website that talks about the different home apps or possibly one of you members have a utube video that teaches the thing..... HELP my phone looks like it just came out of the box with a photo as a wall paper......Nothing fancy..... yet... I want to have what some of you have..... I love what you guys have done but have No earthly idea how you did it or where you got your info..... I have the Moto droid if i didn't tell you that already.

    Thanks

I won't mess with the "replacement home" apps because there isn't a single one out there that doesn't force close the phone. Also, reports of them slowing down the phone are fairly common. I know a lot of people swear by them and will say they have been running such and such for months without a problem.... but I'm not interested. The only appeal of a home app is the additional home screens, and with 2.1 around the corner and 5 home screens included, I'm happy to wait. There are plenty of widgets out there to "customize" my screens.

    I recommend a few.

Power Control Widget - gives you a bar with 5 switches to turn on/off: GPS, Wifi, Bluetooth, sync anddim/bright.
Beautiful widgets: gives you a little weather, clock, date and comes in 2 sizes and supports skins. Also includes widgets for putting the phone in vibrate mode, silent mode and airplane mode.
CalWidget - gives you multiple sizes and displays upcoming calendar events.
BatteryLife - gives a nice color display of, well, battery life.

There are plenty of other widgets as well, but that's what I work with.

I also recommend BetterCut which allows you to edit the shortcuts on your home screens. You can change the names and also the icons....great for apps with ugly icons or names that are too long to even fit.
