Old G1 that used to have a contract

I have an g1 that was under contract with t-mobile but service got cancelled when i could not pay the bill. Even if I could get another contract I do not want it. I want to stick to prepaid.Could I use a prepaid t mobile sim card in the G1? Will I still be able to access my apps and stuff? Does anyone have any recommedations?

It's possible that they will block the phone by IMEI number, but I dunno.

Prepaid SIMs work fine in the G1 and all apps work as expected, given that there is by default no data. Learn to love open wifi.

Might borrow a prepaid card (or get it cheeeeeep of eBay for testing) before dumping money on a refill card.
