I've read in a few places that android phones have an "always on" data connection.

Is there a setting on the milestone to prompt the user to allow the phone or an app whenever they need to use the data connection? (mobile)

This would be a very useful feature for me too.

I am going away on holiday to Wales in a month or so and i know that T-Mobile reception where i am going is not great and i was planning on using a pay as you go sim for the week, but dont really want the data to use the credit up.

Be nice if i could set it as a pure phone for the week rather than the normal full multimedia device.

    Hi all, first post here.

If you download the application Quick Settings from the market, it allows you to turn off all mobile data.

    I hope this helps.

Use APNDroid ...[IMG]... Toggle that prevents your phone from connecting to internet over 3G/EDGE/GPRS

If you go to settings, mobile networks, access point names and turn off the access point then doesn't that turn off the data part? You can also have the data always off with roaming. Yes there is setting to turn off 3G.
