on off button not workingSupport

ok so as it says in the title, being the fat fingered idiot that i am, i dropped my wildfire. it was in a silicone case but it went with a fair wallop. on inspection i was very relieved to find the screen as not busted ( i presumed this would be the part to object to being dropped).
The problem i found was that the power button does not work, so i cannot wake up the phone if it goes into standby mode. if i put the screen as "always on" it is no problem and I can use it as i would expect. however id rather not do this as then there is nothing stopping me pressing buttons in my pocket, and the battery won't last long.
I returned it to the tmobile shop who sent it away to HTC ( although on the online fault thing they described it as a touch screen fault in tehir diagnostic section) who have said it is not fixable under warranty ( i had presumed this would be the case but thought it was worth a crack, i told them the button stoppped working and failed to mention the flying lesson).
when i look at the power button it feels like there is nothing under the button if that makes sense, the button almost stays in the down position as if there is no spring behind it.
I think i got it to work once, buy really pushing it, but that may have jsut been coincidence. any suggestions what i can do guys?
