I have found a new program on XDA called GingerBreak APK to root and unroot Ally. It is run 100% from your phone like z4root was, and will root/unroot at the click of a button. It uses the newer GengerBreak exploit and works on Ally running both 2.2.1 and 2.2.2.

    To Root/unroot 2.2.1 or 2.2.2
1.Go to [26.04.2011][v1.2] GingerBreak APK (root for GingerBread) - xda-developers and down GingerBreak APK v1.2 **Please read through the original post for need to know info**

2.copy it to the root directory of your SD Card

    3. use a file management program such as Root to navigate to the file (GengerBreak-1.20.apk) and install on your phone. explorer

    4. Open program and press "Root Device"

    5. wait for phone to reboot. Congratulations, your rooted.

It messes with the vold.fstab hence the sdcard issues. ive experienced them too. Haven't tested GingerBreak on 2.2.1 but i have on 2.2.2.

    C skills: yummy yummy, GingerBreak!

    GingerBreak VS740 -

    it works.

However, many people will refuse to support root this way. Still best if you follow the guide. fastboot can be your best friend if you let it!

If this works, I will be so happy. I just hope when 2.2.2 is here for all of us, that Velocity 1.1 will be updated/patched.

2.2.2 is useless to anyone using a custom rom. SMS has been patched already

Yep! This is strictly another easy way to get your Stock ROM rooted for the first time so you can do whatever you want from there.
