Help Only recieving email notifications when the screen is turned on

Grettings to everyone

I got Tmobile UK to give me the unlock code for my G1, so its been unlocked properly. (Just a note the above issue was not experienced when using my t-mobile sim card)

My Problem:

Im not receiving any email when the screen is turned off. If i turn the screen on the emails start to come through.

I figured this was a little odd (considering it used to work before i changed the SIM)

I'm currently using my Orange UK SIM.
