I very recently bought a used LG P500H, and just took it to the local cell phone repair guy who has a very high reputation in the community so it can be unlocked. I also asked him to update the Android OS from 2.2.1 to the official 2.3.3 as distributed by LG and Telus. His response was to strongly discourage any firmware updates. His reasoning: 'All too often you start getting freeze-ups, weird errors and a general degradation in performance'. This is my first smartphone and I intend to use it to replace my landline, so it really must be problem free. Also since I am on a meager pension I cannot afford a new one (got this at Value Village for $ 4.99 ). Should I take this technician's advice and leave well enough alone? My use will be mainly as a touchscreen telephone, not tons of wonderful apps and games. Your thoughts would be appreciated.
