Pretty sure we are switching to Sprint from AT&T. So far the Optimus S seems the best Android choice. Sure would like the EVO but is it worth $150 more?

I'm debating the same thing... the evo costs $170 more for me (I can get the optimus for free or the evo for 170) plus the evo has the extra $10/month premium data fee. That's $400+ more over 2 years.

I've got a Droid X on cricket right now and I'd love to have the larger screen on the evo but I don't know if I want to drop that much extra cash for it.

Here's the pro/con list I've got going so far:
optimus has better battery life then the evo.
optimus is a lot cheaper over a 2 year contract.
optimus has a nice compact, pocketable size.
optimus has nice physical buttons that give you nice tactile feedback.
    evo has sense UI.
    evo has hd camcorder.
    evo has an led flash.
    evo has a larger screen.
    evo has a faster processor.

With the Optimus, you can download ADW Launcher and use the Sense theme and I would download an HTC-like flip-clock from the market

    The Evo is $150 + $10 / month more (total $240 + $150 = $390) more.

Is it worth it? That's up to you to decide.

The Optimus S is a pleasure to use. Pure pleasure. While I have loved it, I decided to sell it and go back to my Evo (and Epic) because I love the larger screen on the Evo. It was hard to read news articles at times on the Optimus due to my aging eyes, but I'm sure others would find it to be no problem.

The Optimus S is the ONLY phone that I'd consider using outside of the Evo / Epic right now. It is superb. I will always remember my short time with it fondly. Whoever chooses to use it will have no regrets and will really enjoy using it.

I'm wondering the same thing (about needing the larger screen due to aging eyes). What is your real-world experience with the battery life on the evo? Can you make it thru a day with moderate use? I've decided I can live with the added expense of the Evo but I am concerned about the evo's battery life.

My Evo's battery life makes it with light to moderate usage to almost a day or just a bit short of.

The Optimus S battery does last longer, I'd say 25% - 35% longer.

I just bought a couple of spare Evo batteries + charger off of eBay for $10 and swap as needed. They work fine.

That's was my impressions based on other posts... thanks for the info. I'm still torn. I really like the form factor, build quality, battery life and the low priced of the optimus S.

I have an EVO and now in the house have an Optimus on one of the other lines and completely agree with this sentiment.

Played with Optimus at Sprint store. It feels good! The EVO is just too big! Feels like holding my tomtom GPS to my ear!

My wife is gonna get the Blackberry Style and that is a nice phone too

I have my optimus for a week now, and it is really a first-rate phone.I originally went into the store with my mind made up to buy the Transform, because I couldn't give up a physical keyboard, but after holding them both on my hand, I made the plunge to go with the on screen keyboard. (I'm having a pretty tough time adjusting, but its still worth it, considering the awesome form factor). Overall I would definitely recommend it to anyone! Only go with the Transform if you absolutely cannot live without the keyboard.its only other advantage is a slightly larger screen, but I have found the screen on the optimus to be really nice.

I am noticing, though, that after the first few days, it started to develop some lag immediately following the screen unlock. Flipping to the apps screen from the home screen is a slow fade, instead of the zippy animation that it used to be. The notification drawer won't slide down right away. I'm wondering if someone can help me with this. Did I install too many apps? Did the OTA update somehow slow it down?

Are you using Launcher Pro? If not, try it. It would reduce the lags a lot.

Sweeeeeet!! Launcher Pro rocks!! Now I am an official android cult member! Aside from totally solving the lag, it is a GREAT program! Thank you very much for that tip!

As I now own in the fam a OP S, and Moment and Hero.

I text and search when needed. fam member all the time, and other rarely, me in between.

I will opt for the Opt S, what we do not like its a destratcion, most phones are.

We need a Answer button when the phone rings not a swipe only, are there any way around this?

As well the voice dialer, say a command, call Mom, calling Mom, the Op S does not it confirms.

If these two not issues but removed firmware/hardware can be corrected then we be Finalized and happy. we have up to 30 days. And we're not going to the Sanyo Zio, it misses the voice but has the answer.

What we will do is wait for the Wired headset, we preferre not to use a Bluetooth. The samsung wired does not answer on the Op, but my moment . that will eliminate the one issue.

DL a app but it failed voice caller.

any direction to a replaced app for the voice, understanding it may be firmware LOL.

A decision between phones really comes down to personal preference.

The Transform i wouldnt even consider IMO, has lag and screen issues.

Now comparing the Evo to the Optimus really depends what screen size u prefer.

I always loved the large screen on the Evo but decided a 3.2-3.5inch screen would work much better in the long run for me.

The Optimus is really like a smaller Evo all things considered, granted its missing a couple features but the Optimus is amazing for a free phone.

Both my brother and my father have the Evo and we were comparing the Evo to the Optimus and except for the screen size its almost identical. The Evo runs on a 1gig processor as opposed to the 600meg in the Optimus, but ive experienced NO lag whatsoever and the Optimus seems just as fast as the Evo to be honest.

Also keep in mind that the Optimus can be purchased for free as where the Evo will run u 225-250 and will cost u an extra 10 bucks a month for the 4G tax.

All in all im extremely happy with my Optimus S and wouldnt trade it for any other phone in Sprints current line-up.

I paid $50 for my Optimus but the Sprint discount for my credit union makes up for it. Saving $20/month over the normal price.

Bought my Optimus yesterday, it was free, plus taxes, with a rebate from sprint. Love the phone, much faster than my Hero and I don't have to pay 10 dollars extra for not having 4g. I like the evo, but this phone is what I need. Connected to my netbook using the hot spot, works great. Get "Quick settings" from the market.

We bought 3 S's yesterday(Sat.), basically for free. The manager removed the activation fees; very nice! We had to take my wife's back because the batt wouldn't charge(wife was REAL happy...). The tech looked and said "put in a new batt", so now it's cool!
We probably won't use 20% of the "smart" in the phone, but calls today from inside the house to inside WallyWorld were crisp, and that is the main reason for having the phone(no, not just calls to WW ;)), so far, so good!
So long to those who charge for data service ;) ;) !!!

EVO improves your social life. I can't even count the number of times people start asking/talking about it when they see me using it. Of course it doesn't hurt that i wear it on a necklace for added bling. LOL

I got it on launch day. It is my first android phone. Tweaks, rooting, ROMS, many, many hours more than needed went into this phone (because it

I almost re-uped with verizon and was looking at the Vortex which is a brother to the Optimus when I stumbled on the Optimus. The Opt s has 512mb ram so thats why its fast same as the evo and dinc. I think Evo is to big for everyday phone. Im a plumber and need the compact size of the opt to fit in my pocket.
I jumped to sprint to save mucho dollars after careful calculations on cost over the term of two years and similar plan vzw I can actually save enough in 6 months to cover the cancellation fees from vzw. I will say sprints 3g coverage is not that of vzw but it works fine in the city.
Buy from Best Buy cause they offer them free and no rebate crapola.
