Called into Sprint tech support for slow data connection issues. Tech support guy said that numerous people have complained today about slow internet speed and that an update will be rolled out tonight and tomorrow for the Photon. He reset my connection to the net servers and it seemed to fix my slow data issue the net flies now :) Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that something should be out soon.

Just to clarify, the tech support rep meant an OTA update, right? I wonder if that'll fix other existing issues that people have reported.

And some people doubted what I said about Motorola's phone support. Don't worry, Pyro. I'm sure HTC will be on it as far as OTA's are concerned. HTC has been just as good. HTC just invested in Dre's Beats company for improved smartphone audio, so I wouldn't doubt if that deal was high priority, prior to getting back to SOP.

If you want to link my post over in the 3D forum, here's the article:

Nontheless, this is part of the reason I was ready to jump on board with the MoPho. From my research, their updates for the general consumers seemed to be on point with what HTC was doing and Samsung always lagged behind with their US "high end" Android phones.

What a strange and interesting business pairing. I can see why they did it though from a business sense. I don't keep up with the news sites very much, so thanks for the random link. I think I have a good thread to reference it in.
I wonder if the 300 Million also buys them some "street cred" :D

That is true, they did have a few small updates out of the gate. I'm just waiting for the famous "stability OTA" that EarlyMon loves to mention (he's the best), like we got for the Evo 4G. I keep thinking its gotta be just around the corner.

I called into Sprint last night about the phone audio and bluetooth issues I've been having and they pushed an update to my phone. I couldn't test it until today and unfortunately it didn't work. Still having the phone audio and bluetooth issues.

I really like this phone but if it can't make reliable phone calls and fast-forward a podcast when I press fast-forward I'll have to return it.

Was this a software update (MR-5?} or a simple profile or PRL update? The latter won't solve any major problems; the MR is what's needed.

I have MR-1, BTW, and everything is pretty smooth here.

When the update came through it said it was updating the profile and I just checked my phone stats and it still says MR-1. False alarm on my side. On one hand I'm glad since the update didn't work. Back to the waiting game.

I am sick and tired of the constant phone "silent call" problem. If the powers at be can't update this issue VERY SOON I would like to try the MR-5.

Three questions: 1) Has anyone tried it? 2) Does it work 3) Where can I
    download it from?

I am in sales, my office is my car, I MUST HAVE A WORKING PHONE!

Merged your thread with the original one created by whipped99 discussing the update.

A quick "FYI" here... I installed the leaked update from XDA developers and a few protected apps aren't showing up in the Market now (and won't, until Motorola sends the ROM "fingerprint" to Google and they approve it). These apps which have gone missing can be seen to be flagged as "incompatible with MB855" via Market on web. Here's a thread with with details (different phone there, same principle):

Once the ROM update goes live, I suspect this issue will resolve itself.

If you hard-reset your phone after the update (usually recommended) you'll lose the apps--if you don't, you'll keep them.

...per XDA. I wouldn't know, because I updated per the same leaked ROM last week.

what does the update do, or improve?

It's supposed to fix the call issue where there's no sound, as well as a couple issues with phone use (not sure what else).

Will this be a somewhat automatic update? Sorry for the "newb" question, just checking :) Wifi is on when I am around my apt. I hope I get the update this week, as my 30 day window closes. I dont want to give up this phone!!! :)

From home screen: menu, Settings, About phone, System updates, Update Motorola software to force manual update. This will not wipe your phone, but I did a full reset before and after.
