Overheating message since KitKat

Since updating my Galaxy S4 to Kit Kat I keep getting your phone is overheating, applications will be shut down message.

Any one else seeing this message?

I am having it as well, also fast battery drain.

No battery drain issue for me but so annoying seeing the message and having to worry that my Navigation program will be shut down as I am driving. It happens in the car for me while using Navigation mostly.

I have the same issue with overheating plus fast battery drain. Started on Saturday when I updated the software.

My s4 is fine but my wife's just started doing this after the update. I am going to try a hard reset tomorrow to see if that helps.

Possible reasons for over heating and battery drain are given in #1.0, "Why you may be experiencing problems", of the Update Problems - Dummies Guide. This is followed by what you can do about it.

I was having overheating after Kitkat (although I never got the message about it)

So I tried this and it worked, also the battery drain is much better now:

Best thing to do is to go to Settings -More -Locations -Mode -select Power Saving or GPS Only. Also, go to Settings -My Device -Power Saving Mode -turn it On and go in -Tick CPU Power Saving and Untick the others, should help with heating and battery drain.

I, too, am having this issue and have tried all recommendations except a factory reset, which I'd really rather avoid. It seems to mostly happen during my evening commute with the navigation on. But not in the morning... I thought it was related to sun/ambient temperature, but a couple of cool, cloudy days proved otherwise... I'm working on removing apps I don't really use and cleaning up data on others. I'm sure it'll come down to a factory reset, though, which bums me out. LOL

You might try battery usage apps like gsam to see if anything unusual is going on.
