There seams to be a widespread problem of the gold coated camera button flaking and or wearing over time. The top of my camera button is completely white and looks awful. Other then this, I have no complaints about the phone. Don't feel like dealing with VZ or Moto and getting a new phone for something so small. Has anyone painted the camera button? If so what kind did you use and how does it look?

I, too, would like to know this. BUT, I'm worried that if I paint it and/or seal it, will that void the warranty? If I need to return the Droid within the year's warranty, I can unroot it and revert it back to stock before I do. But I can't UNPAINT or UNSEAL something. I kind of doubt they would take it back if I painted the whole phone gold or yellow. So I wonder if they would take it back with a painted camera button???

Since you're asking for suggestions: try a sticker. You'll only be able to cover the top of it, but that's something.

Chances are, that button is made of plastic, so you have to be careful that whatever paint you use won't melt it. (Fortunately for me, my button is still pristine!) My kneejerk is to recommend paint made for plastic model cars; i.e. "Testors" brand. I'm sure they make a flashy gold metal-flake that would look very close to OEM.

I use the stock Verizon "gel" protective case, and I've noticed upon removal that I'm starting to wear the black paint off the bezel near the display, too. Actually, I've noticed paint scratches beneath the case in several places, and other places where the paint is rubbing thin. My camera button is just fine, though ;)

A sticker!? How long do you think that would last? If Motos paint doesnt cut it I doubt a sticker will.

Thanks for the reply guys. Joe, I was thinking the same.

Shawn^^, true, a sticker won't last long in a pocket. If you drop it into a hardcase it would help prevent it from getting rubbed too much, but now I'm solving the wrong problem.

On an unrelated note, my battery cover has begun detatching itself with surprising regularity (about once a day) after two-and-a-half months of ownership. I plan to solve this problem by 1) replacing the phone due to a voice quality issue and 2) dropping the new phone directly into a hardcase.

Go on the Motorola website, enter a chat session and tell them your problem with the battery door. They sent me a new one within a week and it has been much better.

+1. Had the same experience, except via the email form. New door works much better.

I got 3 doors sent to me via the Verizon Wireless site, free with overnight shipping. Cool!

That was a good suggestion about the Testors paint. Any good craft store will carry it. And an inexpensive fix too.
