I just downloaded pandora and when I first tried to use it the message I saw was warning this program uses a lot of data.

Will this cause me to be charged extra with Verizon even though I have unlimited data plan I think it is 29.00 a month?

Just worried to use it now :(

As long as you have the unlimited data plan, you'll be fine. I can tell you from experience that running Pandora for extended periods of time does use a hefty amount of data so as long as you have unlimited, you'll be fine. Ad if you are running it at home, you can use your wireless instead of the 3G network anyway.

I thought there was only a unlimited data plan available and nothing else?

Whoa, let's be careful before giving advice that could ruin somebody's wallet. I think there is a very large misunderstanding here. Verizon does not actually offer a plan with unlimited data usage. The plans they advertise as "Unlimited" have a 5gb data cap. There is a charge per megabyte after you exceed this capacity.

Streaming music with apps like Pandora does use a lot of data, but I would not be worried about exceeding the 5gb cap unless you use it multiple hours every day.

An easy way to make sure you don't end up getting charged for extra data is just to log in to your My Verizon page and check your data usage.

NO NO NO NO. The smart phone unlimited data/email plan IS INDEED UNLIMITED. Verizon could not possibly use the word "UNLIMITED" more times on its website, on your individual account section of the website, on your usage recap, etc., etc. It is unlimited. However, I make no representation about violating the terms of service by tethering, etc.

Think there is a thread on this here or Droid.net Verizon will offer its own teathering for an additional cost. It is againt the TOS to use a second hand app to teather your Droid. However I find I am already paying for unlimited data so why would they care if I use PDAnet. Seems odd, cant wait for Verizon for ever to support it and why pay again for another 5g when I supposedly have unlimited.

Check out an app called 3G watchdog if you need to keep an eye on your data usage.

I believe the 5gb cap is coming sometime in 2010 on VZ. Right now it is unlimited but they're going to start charging eventually. If memory serves correct, they are going to do this because they can (Their superior network), their attitude not mine. I read it on a website right around when the droid came out. If I can dig it up again I will post the address.

The 5 gig cap is only for tethering, which technically hasnt been released yet.
