Paradise Island (help)

I am at 13th level atm and i've expanded my island to region 5 in land regions and region 3 in water regions. What I want to know is, i've recently added some friends in that game and saw their islands, they were hell alot developed than mine and they all had bought almost every region and they had cool buildings. I just want to know is there any way to increase money or pastries more quick? Any tips? It is getting slower and slower day by day and im kinda getting bored. I need some change.
