Try uninstalling PDAnet from both the phone and computer, and get a fresh install going.

HTC sync is the program on the pc not the phone. You can unistall that but there is a way to fix it.

Unistall htc sync & PDAnet from the PC, restart, install PDAnet(use the newest version from their site, it has a compatibility mode for htc sync, I think its 2.45), restart then install HTC sync and restart. all should be good now.

I was having the same issues. So I uninstalled both pieces of software and was able to download the pdanet software but am unable to find the htc sync software for the eris on their website. Anyone have any links.

Ok after uninstalling both I Installed PDA net and then it asked to hook up the phone, so everything seems to be working quite well at the moment.

That is the way to do it, PdaNet always asks you to install the PC app without the phone plugged in, then after it finishes loading the USB driver it will prompt you to plug in your phone. Version 2.45 was significantly changed from previous versions to also provide a selector for the various Android phone manufacturers so you click the radio button next to HTC, Motorola, Samsung, etc.
