I've noticed that in the People app, the phone numbers are formatted like this: (xxx) yyyzzzz but phone numbers that are used in message fields such as "Send Message" are formatted (xxx) yyy-zzzz.

Is there any way to have the phone numbers formatted using the dash? Why, you ask? Because it's easier to read when you are looking up a phone number to give to someone; and I'm old, so don't laugh at me!

GMail's contacts formats them all with a dash, but I can't find a way to make the Hero do so.

I think you may have to edit this yourself in the Hero. I've noticed that entering the phone numbers with the AC in parentheses seems to cause this. Try editing the phone numbers in one of your contacts and remove the parentheses.

    THIS: 999-999-9999
    NOT THIS: (999) 999-9999

See if that fixes how the numbers are formatted outside of the People app.

    Thanks, that does work!

Now to figure out how to reformat 1,500 contacts :)

    Thanks again,

I found this app in the market place. haven't used it yet, only read about it somewhere.
Contacts Clean-up: will sweep through your contacts list and reformat

Thanks redclay. It seems that that app only reformats the main phone number, and I usually have multiple phone numbers.

Now that I've got HelloWorld running, I think I know what my next app might be :)

    thanks again!
