Okay, the light leakage is coming from the LED lights behind the 4 touch buttons on the bottom of the phone, correct? Perhaps someone could write an app for rooted phone (I'm guessing it would have to be rooted) and it would simply turn the LEDs off. I know I don't need lights behind the buttons to know which ones are which in the dark.

We have 3 EVOs, mine has the half blown speaker and the other two, which got barely any usage this last week both have the screen problems. So all 3 are going back to Sprint for replacements I guess.

Yeah, I'm going to get replacements for all 3 of them, and if not, will just cancel and sign up again. Haha.

Might save a little bit of battery life too, if the lights were disabled.

Is the light leakage problem people are referring to light coming from where the glass meets the outer edge? Or light coming through right belowe thr button through the black?

Both, actually. If you turn your screen brightness down and have a white background, you can see some light leaking up from the buttons; if you have light coming thru the crack/edge of glass and bottom of phone, your screen is raising up and need to get a new one.

Well the light is supposed to come through the buttons, but not upwards into the screen or though the crack that the screen makes when it raises up.

Just take it back, get a new one, and keep doing that until they get some that work and are built correctly. ;)

I am suffering from the light leakage and its going across the whole bottom of my phone at the buttons. I'm starting to believe the issue is in fact with LED lights in the button. I agree there needs to be an app made to turn off the lights or Android add on/off option. If you have phone set to leave screen on while on A/C charger I would suggest turning it off. At night those bottom buttons LED lights don't go off at all unless a light is turned on or its daylight.

You do have a good point: I wonder if the LED lights down there are actualy causing the glue to go bad.

No where else on my phone has the light leakage, just the bottom. So far the screen hasn't separated but it will most likely since light is coming thru at the bottom under every button. I will get picture up soon.

Yeah, well if it's coming from the bottom of the lights, in-between the glass and bottom edge of the phone, then your screen is coming apart.

What I was saying though is, perhaps the LED lights under the buttons down there are the cause for the glue coming part.

Mine just did it tonight, the other two EVOs that we have did it sometime in the last 3 days.

True. Looks like I'm making a trip to the Sprint store sometime this week. I just did a experiment by adjusting the screen brightness all the way up without hitting ok and screen won't shut off. I found more leakage at top right and top left. I still lovethis phone but it just annoys me that this i happening.

I might believe the battery heating up to could be causing the adhesive to give out on the seal. I have read post about battery getting pretty hot.

Yeah, it could be any number of things. LED lights putting off something that's eating away at the glue or pocket heat/battery heat, ect.

Just go exchange it and then will probably both have enough time to exchange them once or twice more before the 30 days are up. ;)

Has anyone tried to get a new EVO because of the light leakage? Any luck? Mine does it really bad.

Going today to trade in all 3 of ours. All 3 screens started coming up yesterday and today. So right at one week old they all did it; all have different amounts of useage too.

When you say "screen is coming up" what exactly am I looking for? From what I seen this looks like a problem where a week or two down the road, the screen starts to give?

Just asking because now when i squeeze the phone in my hands it makes a creaking sound, like as if the battery case or the plastic is sort of loose. But I don't notice anything wrong with the screen, yet.

yeah, can someone post a picture of the screen actually coming up. The one picture I have seen really does not look like a problem. If it is just light leakage it is not a big deal, that does not mean the screen is actually coming up, just that the glue they used was transparent and is letting the light come through the seam. This does not hurt functionality. These things are massed produced, they will never be perfect. Now if in fact the screen is actually moving that is another issue, but I have not seen any evidence of this yet. I think the give is exactly what you are saying and what i have experienced on my phone and that is the back cover having give, not the screen.

Check out Roman's post about the key scratching on the screen, at the very end of his video, you can see how the screen is rising up in the left corner. I didn't realize that the entire front of the EVO is a glass screen, not just the actual capacitive touch area. That makes more sense now. The way to check would be to look at your phone from an angle and see if the screen is rising above any of the bevelled edges, or if you can press it down deeper on any of the edges.

So far, no problems on my end, just the creaky back cover. I hope it doesn't wait to change until after my 30 days are up, lol. I don't like getting refurbished phones.

Unfortunately, it's really a problem with the glue... Blake had a good post on a temporary fix: http://androidforums.com/support-tr...se-bottom-screen-separating-6.html#post940494
