Lets start off with that this is base on my personal experience and opinions. With that said I personally own a Evo 4g, I got a few co-workers with Incredibles, and large amount of friends with Iphone - so we're constantly doing comparsions. These topics are just minor parts that I think Evo needs some slight improvement on.

    Screen:
The iphone 4 is the definitely sharpest out of the 3. When surfing through webpages even the smallest font is visible on the iphone while the HTC phones are still visible but you can notice the pixel. The tested with the slickdeal page with the text on the right side of the site. I guess 960x640 in a 3.5" screen pair with the high PPI really does the magic. With some small research I believe the iphone4 has 326ppi, the Incredible at about 252 and the Evo at 217. I believe the original droid comes in second with 267?

    Smoothness:
I'm not sure if the 30FPS cap has something to do with it, but scrolling through menus in the Incredible does feel snappier and smoother. Pinch and zoom on web pages with iphone4 and incredible was close possibly with a slight edge to iphone. The Evo has a small choppiness to it only if you really pay attention to it.

    Camera:
I don't know have much experience with the Incredible so I'm leaving this one out. My Evo can take soem good picture, but I think some help is needed. When I say help, I mean like light and steady hands. I believe the iphone4 captures good quality photos easier. Videos is no contest, iphone4 destory the Evo hands down. This is probably nothing big either, but the single LED for the flash is brighter than our dual LED. We did some video conference test on Fring and iphone does seem to capture movements better.

Within those 3 topics, the iphone4 does seem to have a better edge - but there are alot more features that I like from Android that can nowhere be found on iphone. The Evo 4g definitely a good phone and more than sufficient for most smart phone users.

For me Evo beats iPhone 4 hands down taking into account network that each phone is on.

First I use phone for talking and Evo beats iPhone hands down along with crappy network iPhone is on and antenna issues.

Internet and wifi hot spot. Internet use is unlimited, Evo has hot spot capability, and I get much faster connection in my area than with iPhone about 4 times faster download speeds on Evo.

Bigger screen is more important for me than higher pixel density so Evo wins. So much better to surf the web, watch videos, etc.

I have not used camera or video recording on Evo since I got it month or so ago or played games so for me this is not important. I got HD camcorder and Xbox 360 so don't need phone for that.

For me Evo beats iPhone 4 hands down.

Just curious...what does the Xbox 360 have to do with it?

This. I'm biased since I own an Evo, but I will take the bigger display, which also just happens to be a great screen to boot, over the smaller one any day.

I definitely like the big screen too - I guess I'm just greedy to want both big screen and high PPI. =)

In terms of hardware, the iPhone 4 is better than the EVO. Add in the network however, and the EVO is simply a better choice.

It does frustrate me that the sound quality of even my old iPod Touch is better than the my EVO.

I'm sure that works out well for you if you:

    A. Always have your HD Camcorder and Xbox with your

    or

    B. Don't care to take videos, and never have free time

The Evo is a good stop gap device for both of those, although it will never replace the purpose built devices.

Sprint is definitely better than AT&T. Although I did miss the excellent customer service from T-mobile and the GSM technology. Conference calls and such was way better.

+ and yes Iphone4 hardware and built quality does make Evo looks behind.

I think he's saying that he doesn't care about having good games on his phone because he has an xbox.

Until the "perfect" phone is manufactured and on the "perfect" network, there's always going to be something to bitch about.

:) I read that and had a chuckle, since whatever Steve says eventually becomes some sort of talking point for Apple fanboys ("You're holding it wrong! No one holds it like that!"), and you know the size of the Evo will now be part of the argument. My gf is 5' tall and has tiny hands, and she was able to hold the phone just fine. Now operating with one hand is out of the question for her, but go figure, she wants an Evo anyway. Sadly, she's stuck with T-Mobile for another 11 months. Maybe they'll get an Evo-like phone soon (the Vibrant is close ...).

While the EVO is a great phone, I still find the iPhone has a bit better music player. However that being said, I really am pleased with the quality of Sprint's network and the fact that I can get reception in places that I could not with the iPhone. I also like the Sprint plans where they include unlimited data, 7 to 7 nights and weekends (extra charge with AT&T) and unlimited text messages (extra charge with AT&T). I also really like the unlimited mobile to mobile minutes. I wish more carriers would jump on that pricing structure. So all in all, I am impressed with the EVO but I am equally impressed with the Sprint phone plans which seem to be going in the opposite direction of AT&T.

Where is the rest of the review.. points that the EVO won you over.. and why you are/might be keeping the EVO.

Android itself won me over. I'm not dissatisfied with the evo display - other than the 30FPS cap.

I was comparing the camera on my evo to my friends old iPhone 3G and even that camera looked better. The iphone just has a great camera it's not about megapixels are anything just the way the pictures look. No contest. I still love the evo, and hate apple, but no one can deny that ANY iphone is a fantastic product. It's just a fantastic product that I hate. Because I hate apple. I still use my 80gb ipod everyday though!

I purchased my evo on the used market out of contract so Sprint can't hold me down if something else comes along I want to switch too but so far I don't see that happening. I guess in the end it's just a preference as all these phones are great. I've been with sprint for 12 years and have never had another service so I don't know what it's like to be on ATT. But I do know that everytime a bunch of iphones get together (st. patty's day, Ranger's opening day are recent events which I witnessed this at) none of them work. The network overloads. But anyway. Evo rocks. So does Iphone 4. The level camera on the iphone makes the form factor quite a bit better imo. All the old people at my work have iphones and have no idea what they are capable of other than downloading fart apps, and some dumb app where you talk into it and then it repeats back what you just said in some squeaky voice. But they love it!

You are forgetting the two most important categories:

    1. Which of these have given their users what they asked for in a user replaceable battery instead of telling their customers to kiss off?

    2. Which of these have a open platform that you can tether, play emulators, get google voice, google maps navigation, and many others instead of a closed, monopolistic system?

Those two things are tip the scales quite a bit...

That's a great summary. I don't personally think the screen resolution makes a bit of difference. But I don't like the scrolling choppiness. I thought that was all Androids animation code, but if the Incr is better it may not be.

Also true, that no phone yet takes pics or video to replace a dedicated device, however there are some instances where it would be nice to have second level quality at the ready, and the Evo just doesn't do it. The iPhone 4 is really close, but I don't think it's quite there yet either. Just the same, you know you're gonna do it, so why not have the best available.

I'm really kind of disappointed with my Evo. Not enough to have returned it, but I can see myself paying the early termination fee by Christmas. I think the 4 inches is the kicker for me. I'd probably go back iPhone, but I like my extra screen space. I'm not sure if the 4G is making much of a difference for me. When I first got the phone a lot of the time when I went to test it out, it was either not connected at 4G or the speed tests just weren't that fast. Not over the best 3G is capable of. Browsing is faster, but I think that's because the processing is faster than what I had before (iPhone 3GS.) I've also taken to turning off 4G to save battery life. So whenever I browse it's always a question of whether it's worth the trouble and time it takes to turn on 4G and return to browsing. Most of the time it's not. I've wondered if maybe sometimes it's downloading at 4G even though it doesn't say so.

I gotta get this thing rooted so I can try out the tethering, the one thing I haven't tried yet. It's way more complicated than jail breaking, that's for sure.

My Evo has Android and the Iphone has IOS and the comparison ended there. Win for Android, hands down, no matter what little points everyone tries to come up with. The difference is so large that it is in all cases the #1 deciding factor.

Heck Winmo was downright painful compared to Android but I still stuck with it because iOS is so poor.
