i just got a desire with a tmobile uk contract
i saw that insurance was 5 pounds a month

but what is stopping someone, from breaking their phone, and then taking out insurance...and then claiming?

Well it's insurance fraud so if you were found out you'd face legal prosecution. Most likely a fine with a criminal record, in rare cases, prison.

The threat of legal action is really the only dissuading factor regarding insurance fraud.

I've known people to do it. Unfortunately, that's why the cost is so high on this stuff. IMO, insurance is a scam anyway. I always save my last phone as my "insurance"....it's already been paid for!

Me too. I haven't had insurance... ever. I get a new phone every 11 months anyway so ha. If I need a replacement, it's called ebay.

I've never had insurance before, but i normally just get free upgrades with my provider. The Desire is the first time i've bough a phone outright. I have a week to decide if i want to keep it. I'm not sure :/

I have cancelled my direct debit with carphone warehouse (cos their insurance is expensive) and I'm gonna find out how much it costs to add it to my parents home insurance...
