phone memory evaporating

I have very few apps installed over the regular Sense apps.

My memory is going down daily.
I do not want to "reset" to factory.

I have sent some files (I'm having trouble with my PC) to my Gmail account.
Is my current Gmail account stored on my Desire and taking up memory?

If "yes" how do I free up memory?

I have had to use my Desire for all my email for days now. When I delete, does it really delete and free up memory?
