"Phone Only" mode for Droid? Only want to heard the phone ringtone

Last Updated:

  1. Hey everyone, I love my Droid the only problem I have so far is I wish I had a "phone only" mode like on Blackberry. There are times where I like having all the sounds muted, but still want to have the phone ringtone on so that way I can hear the phone. I haven't found a way to do this yet, does anyone know how to?

Try Quick Profiles in the Market. Works great for me. Also have Silent and Vibrate profiles setup, just like my BB. Only drawback for some is that you have to do manual switching of profiles but I like that. If you don't there is Locale which will switch profiles depending on location or other conditions.
  3. how exactly do you use quick profiles? I made a profile, but how do I activate/deactivate it? I clicked on it and it says activated... but how do I deactivate it then?

What I did was make a Normal profile exactly as on my BB with all of the settings that I use as defaults then I can just change between Phone Only and Normal by bringing up Quick Profiles and selecting which of the profiles I want to be in - again almost exactly like the BB. To change the settings in a profile just do a longpress on the profile and an edit/delete menu will come up. I would also suggest when you first setup and select a profile that you go to the Droid Settings and check to be sure that everything gets set the way you wanted.

Thank you! I was also looking for a profile switcher because that is one thing I was missing from my Storm

You bet. I had to have it since we don't have a land line and need to get emergency phone calls from family at night. I am going to leave feedback in the Market for the developer also.

I just got a Droid and im trying to decide if I want to keep it or go back to my blackberry. This profile thing is the main reason I'm thinking about sending it back. I downloaded quick profiles and it seems ok. Is there any way to tell which profile is currently active? What is "toast" notification mode in the menu. I can't figure out what it does.

To tell which is active you can set the Notification mode to Statusbar and uncheck Auto Clear statusbar notification but I like to leave my status bar as clean as possible. A different icon for each profile would be nice. As far as toast is concerned I don't know. You might want to shoot an email to the developer - his address is in the Market listing - and let me know.

I too am looking for a way to have a "phone only" mode. Quick Profiles works however I am also using the application "Missed Reminder" to enable recurring alerts for SMS/MMS and missed calls. When I set Quick Profiles to a Phone Only mode and test sending an SMS it works for the initial alert however once the recurring alert from Missed Reminder occurs it plays an audible alert.

If anyone has any suggestions other than removing Missed Reminders I be grateful.

coming from a bb, the app i am using is timeriffic. You create profiles based on times, and it automatically switches to them. For instance, at night I want the phone to ring, but don't want to hear emails coming in. etc. I haven't used quick profiles yet, but from what I understand, it require manual intervention. timeriffic sets profiles by time.

I was able to figure out what the issue was that I was experiencing. I had changed the ringtone used in Missed Reminder for SMS and MMS from "default" to a custom ringtone for each. The logic was that different ringtones would provide an audio clue as to what the missed notification was for.

I changed them back to "default" and it now allows Quick Profiles to work as expected. In phone only mode I now do not receive any sounds from Missed Reminder.

Still verifying this behavior however wanted to share in case anyone else is having a similar issue.

That was a good suggestion. I also came from a Blackberry and was looking for this function. Doing this automatically is an improvement over doing this manually on the Blackberry.

I am having trouble after installing this app. I didn't like it because I was still getting a vibrate so had planned to uninstall, but this morning I realized I am getting no notification sounds. I found one post regarding this problem that had two replies, one was to power off and back on, the other was removing the battery. I've done both and still can't get sounds. BTW, I did uninstall the app thinking that would help.

Toast on Windows Mobile referred to notifications that popped up on the bottom like toast out of a toaster. Not sure if it refers to the same thing on here though.

Locale will let you set notifications to be off when the ringer is on, or any combination. AND you can schedule this.

I use this specifically for when I sleep - I want the phone to ring if someone calls, but I don't want emails and txt and FB and weather alerts dinging all the bloody time. Locale works great for scheduling when to shut off and turn on notifications.

I'm trying to get Missed Call Reminder and Quick Profiles to work together and having no luck. I've created a "Phone only" profile that sets the volume of the notifications to zero. It works great for the initial alert, but the sub-sequent reminders still play the audio. I followed budwizer's advice and set the alert to "default" but it still plays.

Does this still work? Have things changed since 2009 since this post was made?
