I know there are many threads on this already. My phone shut off randomly for the first time this morning luckily it didn't shut off early in the morning as I use my captivate as an alarm clock for my 8 am class. Anyway, I was just wondering if I should be worried? I've only had it for two weeks so I can still get a replacement phone but up until today I had no severe problems. Gps worked fine, battery life was good. I do experience some lag at times. For example, I'll click on messages and I'll have a black screen for ten seconds until my messages come up. Just wondering if I should be worried since it shut down for the first time if I end up having to get a replacement phone I feel like I'll only have the same problems since this is a common problem. I don't want to have to get an iphone, to be honest, I played around with it at the apple store the other day and I wasn't impressed. The captivate has so much more features and the home screen on the iphone just bores me. But the iphone works straight out of the box. Any insight?

I would not exchange it until the last minute if you want to go that route because they are most likely going to replace it with a refurbished unit :(. Also you can always try a factory reset this in some cases cures some problems, I think this is still the gsm reset but cant be sure *2767*3855#. If not it will not do anything. If that dont work its in this forum somewhere back up anything you want to keep because gsm reset wipes everything.

    Yes.

Many devices do not suffer from this problem.

Good idea. If it happened once, it's likely to happen again. Think of it this way - forgetting your personal needs, would anyone want to contact you for help in an emergency? If so, I'm confident that you want to be a responsible family member / friend and not risk that your phone has been turned off without your knowledge.

They will replace it with a refurbished unit? I got my phone at a kiosk in costco. But I went to an at&t store two days ago and they told me of an at&t warranty place near me where they can replace my phone even without a receipt. if I choose to do this will they give me a refurbished one?

They might rabbit, I agree with jack45 that if it did it once it may do it again although I had my phone for a months and then it just would not stay connected to wifi after a gsm reset it was fine no issues since. A friend of mine actually sent his back to samsung because they were going to give him a refurb, he said if he was getting a repaired phone he wanted his  whatever makes him happy I guess, I called poking around at some warranty questions and I can tell you that they told me flat out that my phone would be replaced with a refurbished device, in some cases it would not be a big deal but there is no way to know what the repair was for ex: I dont care what anyone says if a gpu was fixed on a phone I dont want it, repairs like that can go bad again. The bright side is you may get a phone that just went on the thirty day test drive.do the master reset and test it out, if it is not fixed the phone is waranteed for a year through samsung  maybe you will have froyo when you get your phone back:D
