Help Phone won't boot past red eye

Thanks in advance for the help.

For the past couple of months, my Droid X has been turning off randomly. Today it did the same thing, but won't turn on (it was fully charged). It goes to the droid screen, and then to the red eye, but it won't go past that. Also the green light at the top indicating I have a message/missed call is flashing. I took the battery out and left it for an hour but still it does the same thing.

I know there are already several topics addressing this issue, but the original poster talks about sbf and rooting. I have no idea what these things are. I'm just a casual phone user and haven't downloaded anything out of the ordinary for my phone.

If you could help me get my phone working again I would be extremely grateful.
