Help Phones fails to install update

I have an orange htc desire hd on version 2.3.3 and i have received an update.

The update is called GPS function enhancement 14.1MB every time I try to install this update it gets a third of the way through and fails, I get a picture of the phone with a red exclamation mark.

I then press the power and + volume key to reboot the phone. The phone reboots and then requests to install the update again.

Any ideas how i can get this update installed

At what stage are you prompted to install the update, can you even get into the phone?

When the phone checks for updates, it checks automatically that's when its finds it. The phone is working fine, just wont install this update

One solution that has worked in similar circumstances in the past is to factory reset, then download/install, but that obviously means losing data etc.

Do you need the GPS fix? You could turn the check for updates option off?

I have already tried the factory reset and still get the same problem. I don't need the update but presumed that i need to install this update so that it will move to the next update, like windows update.

I don't believe so, some folk skipped the 2.2 > 2.2.1 update because it was buggy and managed to upgrade to 2.3.3 with no issues.

So if i ignore the update and when the next update is release the phone want to install the new update and not this gps one

Yeah, as far as I'm aware, if they release a new update, they'll take the older one down.
