Picture messages on Hero

    I have an HTC Hero Sprint, phone. My service provider is not sprint, i live in Alaska and have ACS as my provider. I was told that my phone will not do picture messaging, and that it was a phone limitation not a network one. Other users have picture messaging on their blackberries.

    Can someone recommend a good app for SMS and MMS that might allow me to send picture messages.

    Well i'm not sure that it will or won't work but give "Handcent SMS" a try, It's in the market and free. It's worth a shot.

    Does the Sprint Hero actually do real MMS now or is it still that goofy Picture Messaging that Sprint has been using that tells you to click a link to view the message?

    You can use Handcent. Take a pic. Click share, then click Handcent mms.

    you've got to click download, yes. but it downloads to your phone

    Mine shows a slide of the image, then I have the option to download to my phone or not by pressing the menu button.

    how do you disable the default messaging program? will killing it in ATK keep it off?

    You need the default messaging app, you just want to turn off it's notifications. Go into "Messages", menu, settings and turn off notifications.

    OK, will the messages be deleted from the default "Messages" program when i delete them in Handcent?

    I think it stores messages in both programs. if you turn notifications off you just wont see the notifications from the stock messenger. but you will get them from handcent. i get the little download button with handcent. I am having an issue when someone with sprint sends me a picture mail i just get a box with a an arrow in it.

    Did any of these programs work for you? I tried the Handcent but it has yet to send a picture message, I'm in the same boat though I have the HTC Hero and I go through ACS I think they are coming out with an update soon to fix the picture messaging issue.
