Hey guys. I just got my droid eris last night, and i love it! This is the first smart phone i've ever had, so i'm still learning about it.

I was really sad when i saw the quality of the photos that i took. Heres one.

I looked around on the forums before posting, and the issues i found similar to mine were on different phones, but i tried them anyways. Those threads suggested adjusting the flicker and Iso settings. messed with both, and there really wasn't a difference. I don't have the little plastic film on it either lol

any help would be appreciated guys. A 5mp camera should not look like VGA :/

You need lots of lighting. I also have my brightness all the way up and it seems to make pictures look better.

I've noticed the same thing. Listening to photographers and some tech people what I've concluded is that when you take a picture inside with incandescent lighting you get really poor picture quality. The lighting may be good enough to read and may not look low to you but the camera doesn't see the light it needs so the camera artifically adds it in. This is what happens with a one-hundred dollar smart PHONE camera with NO FLASH. HTC cut costs by doing this. If you want to take a somewhat good picture inside with "low light" try putting a bright light behind you then take the picture, otherwise use as much natural light as possible. The other thing you may want to adjust (and I haven't done this on the Eris so I'm not sure how to do this) is the white balance. This is fairly easy, point your phone (camera) at a white surface and use the lighting that you already have and let the phone auto adjust. You will need to do this in the whote balace setting. Like I said though I'm not sure if this phone has that setting or not. If that doesn't work I guess you would need to get a regular camera, I know that defeats the purpose of the camera in the phone, but it is just that a camera in a phone. Having said all of that I agree the "5 Megapixel" camera takes pretty crappy shots inside. Hope That helps in a round-about kinda way.

    your hair is long :)
    and ummm

and it takes decent pictures...i like the pictures on the eris better than the droid
but we have to remember it is a phone first with camera capabilities but i think it functions relatively decently for a 100 dollar smart phone haha

and too change white balance open the camera app and hit menu and hit white balance
    to change it

also if the picture itself looks horrible to you...i recommend picsay or the paid version picsay pro if you want to enhance it

I for one am very happy with the eris' camera. True, lighting is important, and it is unfortunate that we do not have a flash, but you can still take freakin phenomenal pictures with it! :D

Look at these 3 shots all taken with my Droid Eris:

-Palm tree in my front yard at sunset. No other lighting. Just ambient light.

-Sapphire & tonic on an airplane (cuz that's how I roll). Airplanes are not generally known for having the best lighting conditions.

-My buddy's 1st born @ 1 day old. Shot in his kitchen. Prolly had the best lighting of all 3 here.

*college computers are acting funky right now, so here are outside links to photos*

you just need more light. remember theres no flash.

my wifes droid takes crappy pictures with the flash.... is so bright that everything gets washed out...

Eris camera works great with the proper amount of light.

    taken with my eris.....

Check now. For some reason my college computer was not letting me upload, even though it looked like they were attached.. I put links up now to view them on imageshack instead of including them in the post.

My pictures look okay on the phones screen and on web pages because those are low resolution any ways but once you open them up on a computer in an editing program like photoshop they look like crap. This phones camera will never match the quality of a stand alone camera regardless of the lighting.

    ya its not 5mb

    5 m (2560x1712)

    it's 5 megapixles

    but ya thats the highest

i'd say your having a lighting issue then, i've worked with Photoshop for years in a professional setting and i haven't seen any issues other than crappy lighting ending up in pixely dark "camera phone" looking pictures......

i dunno it is still a phone :D

In the shop where I work, we occasionally have to send pics of broken computers in to the service plan company (No, it ain't Geek Squad. We actually try to have happy customers)

Back to the point, we've actually started using my phone for these pics, because the quality is a lot better than our camera, and it's much easier to adjust the settings. Matter of fact, they still owe me an SD card, dammit, so they quit using my personal one....
