    PingChat.

I assume this is like Ping for the iPhone.

I wish there was a cross platform one that allowed from messaging between Android and iPhone.

PingChat is available for BlackBerry, iPhone and Android and communicate between all 3 of them.

WhatsApp is also available for BlackBerry, iPhone, Android (Beta) and Symbian (Open Beta) and is also able to communicate between all of them.

PingChat is free with ads. Or you can pay to have ads removed.
WhatsApp is paid only, $0.99 for a year license.

Oh and that Ping! you're reffering to that was on the iPhone. It's this app. It was just renamed to PingChat.

Trying this out and it seems interesting!

I wonder how this affects battery life, and I guess I need to find some friends who will bother to use it!

Nice app so far (on all platforms) however I hope adjustable fonts will get added soon as not everyone has perfect eyes.

Pretty much. Except it doesn't cost you.

I use it to text mates in Australia (I am in NZ) who have iPhones and have the same app, costs me nothing.

Are you on froyo or a ROM? Because mine worked perfectly until I started running a froyo ROM and it does that now too.
