Help Playlists disappear when removing SD Card?

I am using the stock music player on my note 3 and had this same issue twice now and don't understand what is happening. I take my micro SD card out and and transfer pictures using a card reader. When I put the card back into the phone, my songs still appear int he music player but the playlists are gone. The first time this happened, all the playlists disappeared the second time all but 2 playlists are gone. I can not figure out why this happens or why two were left.

Where are the playlists stored on the internal memory?
