Sony's will they won't they unveil the PS4 conference (of course they bloody will!) takes place this evening 6pm EST/11pm GMT.
Personally I couldn't care less about the hardware spec & whatever social media nonsense/obtuse control methods they cram into it.

It's all about the games baby!.. it wouldn't hurt them to announce some bleedin' Vita games too!

I have read that they are going to try and compete with computer gaming by putting up to 16GB ram in this console. Rumored 8 core processor as well.

But I'll just stick with my pc beast haha

I was told that the games will be download only. Just what I've heard.

wouldn't be to surprising since the playstation network uses steam now if I'm not mistaken. Doing what they want to on pc.. which I see the good in it, but I also see an annoyance.. what about those people that buy the playstation to just play games on their own or with someone else on the same console and don't have internet?

I stopped buying physical disks for pc games because the only thing they contained was an install package for steam and a key code which annoyed me because at the time I still had dial-up, then really slow dsl after that.

If it's like the PS3 than maybe the online will be free. Of course, the question is how will they price the games?

One thing where sony is keeping its users from going to the xbox is free online play. For them to give that up would give a new advantage to MS.

I don't see the prices of games going up. For it to be raised in one console would raise all the prices on all platforms. $60 for a new release is pretty steep already

I just can't wait until 6pm! All this speculation is driving me nuts. xD

Highly doubt the games will be download only & almost certain they will be charging for online gaming as per Xbox Live.

As pbf98 said, if they charged for online they would be giving Xbox Live the advantage. I'm interested to see how the games will look and what titles it will have. I wonfer if it will have backwards compatibility for PS1, 2, and 3?

But how would it give xbox the advantage? As I see it the only deciding factor if both consoles have a subscription for online would be the exclusives. Other then that it's really personal preference, I'm play station forever :p.

The rumors I have heard is that it will be ps3 compatible, but undefined for previous generations.
On that note I have heard rumors that the new xbox will not be backward compatible with either the xbox or 360.. but I don't really think I would believe that, it seems like a stupid move to not allow it.

Download only games would allow for steam to keep track of cheaters as they do on the pc.. and you wouldn't have to worry about losing disks as they would be available to you anytime just via download.

And sony did acquire Gaikai Cloud, which is a cloud based server system that essentially lets you stream games over an internet connection meaning the game wouldn't necessarily need to be installed in the hard drive to be played.

But its still a new concept really, streaming these high performance games vs playing off a physical library on your system. I think they will test the waters and then eventually move towards it later if it receives good marks.

As far as what games will look like, at first they will look very similar to games out now, but I would expect 3D gaming to come out more with this release

For xbox you pay and playstation you don't. :)

I play Xbox and would like to see how the PS4 is.

There are some advantages both ways, but right now sony holds the biggest one by keeping their online gaming free for everyone.

MS is in Development to link the Xbox with the pc with ALL games, of course you would need a xbox live subscription though, that will draw some big attention if they pull it off successfully with the next gen xbox.

Anyone hear anything on this now that it is (well) after six?

Just curious really. Looks like I should stock up on ps3 games before they go out of fashion... ;)

Sony details PlayStation 4 specs: 8-core AMD 'Jaguar' CPU, 6X Blu-ray

So we didn't see the actual PlayStation 4
console on stage at Sony's press event
tonight, but that doesn't mean we can't
know what's inside it. A press release
    reveals that the PC-configuration touted
by Sony will include an 8-core 64-bit x86
"Jaguar" CPU built by AMD, with a
Radeon GPU comprised of 18 "compute
units" capable of cranking out 1.84
TFLOPS to process graphics and more. Its
Blu-ray drive -- yes, it will still have one
of those -- spins at a brisk 6X (8X for
DVDs) and as mentioned on stage, it packs
8GB of unified GDDR5 RAM capable of
    176GB/sec of bandwidth. 802.11n WiFi,
USB 3.0, Bluetooth 2.1, HDMI, optical out
and even a legacy analog AV out make up
the inputs and outputs, although the
potential amounts of storage are still
    unspecified.
    Developing...

So I saw the live stream at 6pm EST. All I have in my head now is 3 things. 1. PS4 2. Holiday 3. 2013

I'll recap some special points I really liked.
    Hardware:
AMD 8core cpu (forgot the full name lol, just read the post before mine)
GPU (again read up top :p)
    Memory 8gb nice!

There was a scene that showed a demo in which a million 1,000,000 objects spawned in at the same time and there was 0 lag. Basically games like WoW and Diablo that have amazing cinematics, those cinematics is basically the game on the ps4.

Really all I can say is watch it for yourself its really worth it :).

I kinda figured they'd dump nvidia if they were to go with an AMD processor being that AMD also own ATI

    Any estimated price tag?

I read a other of speculation here about the availability of games, an obvious choice is the whole steam thing, and let's face it, steam do some great deals on games. They might well keep physical discs and cloud some stuff, but out of the box for new existing users alike, steam sounds like a good option to get gaming quickly.

Yea but there is still a large number of people in the world that don't have Internet, companies can push people to buy it but unless Internet becomes something that more than 80% of the world has we won't see stream only consoles. I actually like the idea of being able to stream PS3 games on the PS4, just need decent wifi.
  20. XplosiV

XplosiV Master X is Watching You VIP Member

Im not saying a "stream only" system is the way to go, just that in today's climate having "steam" available on the PS3/PS4 could be a substantial benefit for existing and new members of steam, for the benefits that come with, ie: deals by developer's, deals in general, physical space saving (no boxes etc) cloud backup etc.

As for decent wifi, I'm happy not to use it, if i can Gbit, I will, evan if I have to buy a new switch and shielded cat 6 cables.

Personally, I wasn't impressed by the PS4 unveiling. Hardware wise, it didn't surprise me much. They've always been a step ahead of Microsoft/Nintendo on that front. However, on the software side of things - I feel they were lacking. There was no mention of whether they would do away with that horrid UI they currently use on PSN, plus some mention of limited backwards compatibility of older titles.

I guess at the end of the day, you get what you pay for and that's more or less why I've stuck with my 360 since release (even having a PS3 at one point, but selling it).

Rumor has it @ $400-500 USD.

    pbf98 Well-Known Member

I heard that it will not be backward compatible at all, can anyone confirm this?

If thats true, I think its a stupid decision, forcing people to buy games they already have for a new console.

I'm interested to see MS's answer the the PS4

The discs aren't backwards compatible but you will be able to stream all your old games. No idea if they'll make you pay to stream games which your already own though. It'll be a bit harsh if they do.

Anyway now to find something to do for 10 months. The wait is killing me already

One of my friends told me you'll only be able to play games if you have online.
Just what he told me as I don't understand why you'd have to.
  25. lEquin0xl

    lEquin0xl Well-Known Member

Oh I agree with you 100% on that :). At least Sony learned their lesson with the download only PSP Go! Can't have that just yet.

The best thing you can do is just follow up on official news not on what others say. I have no clue where my friends are getting a 800$ price tag or 24gb of RAM, and the other shenanigans from. If Sony didn't announce that don't believe it ;).
