I had rooted my phone (Samsung Fascinate) that had froyo 2.2.2 on it. Everything was fine and I was cleaning out some of the verizon crap by changing .apk to .old. I did this on things like Bing, and Blockbuster video. Then I got the bright idea (insert sarcasm here) to remove the touchwiz UI so I could have the stock Android UI. I knew the proper steps for this but for some reason I didn't do that. What I did was rename the touhcwiz ui file from .apk to .old. Obviously the phone was none too happy and I rebooted. Now all I get is a black screen with very minimal functionality, which is to be expected because the phone can no longer load a UI. I can make and receive txts, calls, and connect to wifi. However without any other buttons working I can't get into any apps, or settings, or anything else.
I've tried hard resets, clearing the cache, even loading from update.zip but I havn't been able to undo my bone head error. Loading from update.zip btw just gives me a message that the phone cant find the file. I've also tried to access the android system files via PC using skd, android commander but no luck there. I cant get either program to detect the phone, probably because it is not in debug mode but with this error I cant get to settings to get it into debug mode.
If anyone has any ideas on this I'd love to hear them because I'm fresh out

Looks like you need to Odin the CI500_VZW_ED05_FROYO_REL.tar.md5 (stock froyo ed05).

Phones built with custom UI's it is never a good idea to try to remove them. (Touchwiz, blur, Sense) because many apps are linked to the UI. The best way would be to install Cyanogenmod or something along those lines with touchwiz removed already.
Or just install the launcher you want and use "home switcher" to toggle between the two.
