If you installed 2.1 manually, you did use the official update...

well after I did it I kept getting an error message (I don't remember it) and phone seemed a bit slow and unresponsive. I also only had three wall papers, I didn't get the 3D carousel for my apps. Was I supposed to?

    No...you got the right one!

No 3D app drawer...only 3 screens...probably running Live Wallpapers making your phone laggy...yep, sounds like the official ROM at stock speeds to me! :D

3 screens and no 3D app drawer. That is how standard 2.1 for the Droid comes. As far as the error message goes, if that's the only description you can give us then no one is going to be able to help you with that.

I forgot about the "error message" part of the OP's post.

aluislugo, go to menu > settings > about phone > scroll to the bottom and look for "Firmware version"...what is that number (2.0.1 or 2.1)?

Yeah sorry about the error message but it happened twice this afternoon when I updated and I haven't seen it since, but to be honest it made me quite nervous and that's why I was looking to roll it back.

I don't mean to be rude, it seems you are stressed out.

It has been well documented and reported that the Droid 2.1 would not include the 3D application launcher/drawer. We will not be seeing this, as it seems it is a Nexus One exclusive. Google may be limiting it to only phones sold in their online marketplace, who knows?

Reboot your phone a few times. I, for one, did a factory reset after installing 2.1. I didn't experience any slowness, I just thought it would be a nice step to clean things up. It took me about 30 mins to get my apps re-downloaded, and get my settings back the way I wanted. It's time well spent.

+1 This is a very good time to clean up...

I have heard about "issues" and I've heard a number of different ways that people used to correct... Reboot/Battery pull and factory reset seemed to fix most issues. I have also seen a number of posts where an app they had running that was actually responsible...

    Follow these directions:

    1. Turn your phone completely off.

    2. With your Motorola Droid still powered "Off," slide open the keyboard.

    3. Press and hold the "X" button on the keyboard while pressing the "Power/Unlock" button, located next to the 3.5mm headphone jack. Continue holding down the "X" buttons until a yellow triangle "Warning Sign" appears on the screen.

    4. Once the yellow warning sign appears, press the physical "Volume UP" and "Camera" buttons simultaneously until a new menu appears. This may take several attempts before success.

    5. From the new menu that appears on-screen, go down to the "wipe data/factory reset" option using the Directional-Pad next to the keyboard, and press the "Center" button on the D-Pad to confirm.

    6. Scroll down to the "Yes -- delete all user data" and press the "Center" button on the D-Pad once more.

That's it! When your Motorola Droid is done wiping all saved applications, information, and settings, your device will no longer have any errors!

What's the difference from doing a factory data reset from the privacy menu?
