    Hi All,

Firstly thank you for taking the time to read my post, I'm hoping I can get some help regarding my Desire please?
Not sure what's gone wrong but about a week ago my Desire started to really hammer the battery. I've had the phone since May and was getting a full days use of calls, internet, music and even watched mobile TV during my train journey home. I was surprised how good the battery was considering alot of people were saying it wasn't that great. The battery now lasts just over 3 half hours, I charged it earlier and then made one quick 5 minute call and left it idle, can't imagine how long it would take to drain if I was using it like before.
I only have a small amount of apps installed and still have 61mb of internal memory left, none have been moved to the SD card. I don't have GPS or Wi-Fi turned on and the phone is mostly switched to 2G because 3G coverage where I live on o2 is poor. I manually update the weather, BBC news and friend stream apps myself.
The battery usage for the android system and the cell standby seem very high taking up around 80% of total battery used.
I can't understand why all of a sudden this would happen, I'm running an unbranded Desire running 2.2 on o2. It's so bad now that I've had to buy another battery and a car charger. So far I've been very pleased with the Desire but now I cannot use any of it's feature if I'm out and about for too long :(
Sorry for the long winded post.

    Cheers,

    Paul.........

Try downloading spare parts from the market and have a look at battery usage statistics to try and find out what app is using the battery.

    Hi,

    Thank you for your reply.
Yes, changed the old battery out and fully charged the new one. Same thing happens, complete battery drain around the 3 half hour mark.
Haven't tried a factory reset though so guess I could give that ago. Do you think that could resolve the problem?
    Thanks for you help.

    Paul...

You say "android system and the cell standby" seem to be taking up ~80% of the battery - how much of that is android system and how much cell standby?

Apologies if you already know the following:

Try typing *#*#4636#*#* into the dialler - this brings up a more detailed information menu. "Battery history" will let you see what applications have been using most cpu etc. Under this, "partial wake usage" is good for spotting applications which prevent the phone from sleeping properly. "Usage statistics" might be worth a look at too, to see which apps are using most cpu.

    Hi,

It's around 50% for android system and 30% for cell standby.
I didn't know about the *#*#4636#*#* so will try that also.
    Thank you for your help.

    Regards,

    Paul.....

Please can you advise where I go to find the ongoing list?

at a guess the on/off widgets should be just switches
the memory widgets might be ongoing use of battrie power
the maps might be useing power for gps so check settings and posibly think of getting an on/off gps widget
dont think the train one would be a prob

best guess is the mapps... try uninstalling for a while n see if that helps...

    what dose spare parts say??

    Hi,

I've looked under "Partial Wake Usage" and something called Media is showing, the blue bar to show it's active is almost completely full. CPU usage is showing Media also as the only thing using CPU power.
I have no idea what this media is, could this be causing the problem, why would this happen out the blue. Sorry for my ignorance all.

    Regards,

    Paul.....

Hi Paul, I installed spare parts just to have a look and see it I also had Media in my partial wake usage which I don't.
    I have:
    UID10013
    Dialer
    Android System
    Calander
    Maps

I think this Media thing is your problem. I would go back to scratch with your apps. It has to be one of those that's draining your battery. Things like the BBC news feed or anything that requires the constant use of gps will drain the battery as they usually are set up to get a constant connection. I have my wi-fi on all day and only charge my desire when I go to bed. I have about 25 apps installed just now but I did have BBC news and sky news apps installed and my battery took a pounding. hope this helps.

Thanks to everyone who contributed with ideas and advice to help with my problem, its now resolved. This media server was trying to run a large video file on my SD card which was corrupt and this is why the battery was draining. The file was not visable from the phone, I had to delete it via the pc. Now the file is gone there's no more media server running and the battery is now good again. Its been off charge since 10.15pm last night and 7 hours later its still good. I've typed this via the handset. Cheers once again. Paul
