First let me just say this is my opinion only and I don't want anyone thinking the rest of the wonderful staff here at Phandroid/AF.com agrees with it, although some may.

So the 2.1 OTA is here, can you really believe it? I'm so happy for all the users who couldn't wait for it, I hope it is working out for you all. It definitely has added some neat stuff for all the stock users out there, that is for sure. Now on to why I started this thread.

This is mainly directed to everyone who was already rooted and now returned to stock or used some other method to get the 2.1 OTA. Are you having problems? Lag? Bugs? Trying to get MM themes to work? WiFi Tether? Basically anything that requires root?? Then WHY did you use the 2.1 OTA? I and countless other users had warned you that none of this would work properly IF AT ALL. The ESE81 is unrootable in stock form, and if you want to get back to where you were last night then you need to use a SBF file and RSD Lite or suck it up and wait for someone to find a root exploit. We can't fix any problems your having with the OTA because without root access all the normal troubleshooting tools and tips are gone or won't work.

It's not that I don't want to help you all, because I really do and if you know me then you know I'm being honest. I just don't even know where to start. There are so many things that have been complicated by the fact that we can't root the OTA 2.1 (in stock form) and there are most likely small differences in the OTA creating new bugs we haven't figured out how to fix yet. What would really be great is if we could stick to just maybe 2 or 3 threads for issues related to the OTA because right now the forum is clogged with threads and honestly they ALL belong in the support forums (minus the root specific threads). I haven't moved any yet but I actually should be as we do have specific sub forums for support questions.

Phew.....that is all I guess. I hope no one is offended by what I've said because I do love this community and I spend a lot of time here every day. I just don't it to degrade into a giant 2.1 OTA forum.

If everyone would look a little bit or at least pay attention to the similar threads feature when you go to start a new thread it would make things easier for everyone

If not easier it would be quicker cause they could read the fix to there problem instead of waiting for a response

I don't see how anyone could get offended you put that a lot nicer than I could have.

Now if they would just read it......

I spend the majority of my time in this sub-forum but I end up answering a lot of support/troubleshooting questions that should probably be in a support forum. I think part of the problem is that the main support forum is:

    1) "Out of sight, out of mind". What I mean is that the support forum is not linked into this subforum. I think many more people would post their root related troubleshooting questions in the appropriate support forum if it was viewable from THIS sub forum.

    2) The main support forum for the Droid has tons of questions about non-rooted issues. I think most rooters post questions here perhaps because this forum has more knowledgeable people with regards to "root" than the other support forum does.

Does it make sense to have a root support sub forum here? Can a mod hook us up with that? I think that would leave this forum less cluttered and close the discussion here to new roms as well as other root related apps and topics...yet have a "visible" link to click on for technical help and assistance.

I'm just spit-balling...but it seems like that would help some of the "clutter".

+1 agreed 100%. I think a lot more people would use it if we had separate support sub forums.

Maybe if we all bombard Phases with PM's asking for a All Things Root Support forum he might give in.

I agree. there is so much info and has been for people to prepare for this. people just could not wait. this forum has had the tools and easy step by step threads available for months now. it is so much faster to search and ask in an existing thread then to create a new one and only watch that thread. it seems like i intentionally skip all 2.1 threads now because i am scared of repeat questions. i try to help when i can, sometimes the training wheels have to come off and you need to jump into the deep end and learn to swim on your own.

oh well it has to end some day i suppose.

I try not to do things that would personally irritate me so I don't know that we need to bombard him with PM's. :D

I sent him one and explained what we are looking to do. Hopefully he will look into it and provide some sort of resolution...maybe he will have a better idea than the one I proposed???

I know this would initially be more work on the moderators/guides of this forum, but I do think some sort of droid wiki hosted by this forum could help. I think this might be more useful than the trouble shooting pages. In the long run, once established i think it would make answering the same questions over and over again diminish.. we wont see all this brouhaha come with 2.2

I know all the information is in forums, and in sticky pages, but I think a wiki type format has potential for easier access. There could be sections on the wiki for stock 2.0 stock 2.0.1, stock 2.1 and pages for rooting 2.0/2.0.1 and eventual proper root of 2.1 an so on.

Something of that sort could also be a good place to get information in a somewhat standardized format, that way more conversation in the forums could be towards new ideas/concepts or new roms.

Good idea in theory but the drive by posters will continue to log on, not look, and still ask the same questions.

I just can't believe so many people went back to stock from root, and took the update, and now complain cause they can't use root only apps. They knew they wouldn't be able to when they did it, or they were just that ignorant to ignore all the warnings.
