By downloading this file you assume all responsibilities. I am not responsible for bricks or broken phones, flash at your own risk. I also don't think this will affect download mode but take caution anyways. I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITIES.

Download the file, unzip it and place it in the root of your internal sdcard (the emulated one, not the external one, not in the system).
Using terminal emulator, type in su, hit enter and grant root permissions.
I have no idea if this phone has the flash_image command, so we'll do it like this,
    dd if=/sdcard/aboot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6

And hopefully we'll have an unlocked bootloader

I'm debating weather to try this...

The only reason I haven't done it is because I don't have a windows PC so I really don't want to have to go through the trouble of getting one to restore.

Same here no pc-laptop to back anything up! But you don't need one do you. Technically

Well if there is a space between dd & if the first line won't work for me I get "cannot open for read no such file or directory." Help

Are you doing it from terminal emulator? Or an adb shell?

And did you make sure to place aboot.bin in the top directory of your sdcard?
Also it's not a matter of backing something up, it's a matter of restoring with the official recovery.

Terminal emulator in ROM toolbox pro, & I extracted the boot.IMG to the internal sdcard root directory. Think I did it right?

Wish I could call you! Just typed. Bin instead of .IMG at the end of the first line and it went ape s*it! Not sure if it messed anything up but my volt still works

You should be fine. I don't see anything going wrong by typing bin but it should be exactly as it shows in the instructions.

    dd if=/sdcard/aboot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6

Also you should try using terminal emulator from the play store. Not rom toolbox.

Yeah, I just got my phone working again. Not willing to tempt fate at this time! :p What exactly is the benefit of getting the bootloader unlocked?

The .IMG is .bin in my sdcard that's why when I typed .IMG at the end it didn't work.
  14. mjhealy1978

    mjhealy1978 Well-Known Member

And it has nothing to do with ROM toolbox pro's terminal emulator cuz I just downloaded a terminal emulator from the play store and typing it with .IMG for that message but I bet if I type it with .bin at the end it would have worked. When I extracted the file its about.bin

    Aboot.bin

You're right. My mistake. I just checked the zip file and it is bin. So when you enter that, what does terminal say?
Can you maybe provide a screen shot?

Looks like you didn't have "of=/dev/block/..." part of the command, so the contents of the updated bootloader were displayed on your screen. No harm was likely done...

He's probably right. Just to make it clear this is the command all in one line:

    dd if=/sdcard/aboot.bin of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6

I have done that successfully. If I do not respond in an hour or so that means my phone is bricked, i'm tethering with it right now. Going to restart the phone and see what happens now.
