    Fair enough :-D

I'm also looking at getting an ssd soon. Not sure if it would help in gaming but yeah, it's supposed to make it huge difference as a boot.

I run the Trainz 2009 rail simulator which is much more demanding on pc resources than a video game. The thing you notice when you install an SSD as the boot drive is that loading times on the game decrease dramatically and everything runs smoother. Plus your Windows Experience Index increases to about 7 out of a possible 7.9
Have a look on Youtube for "Windows 7 boot up with SSD"

I have gotten over the initial teething problems with my build and am now able to access the great features of the MSI Big Bang Xpower II. Here is Live Update running with indicator top right showing the live CPU speed - with 6 cores it rarely rises above minimum!

The Beast near completion. Spent 2 hours installing new Corsair AX860i PSU today (my bank manager is not pleased) and tidying cables up. Just need to install another 16 GB of RAM and the RAM cooler from my old PC.

If any of you guys across the Pond is interested there is an EVGA GTX 690 for auction on Ebay in Florida and it has 15 hours to go. It is boxed and used but not much.

Fair enough I guess. £200 less makes it a reasonable price . I didn't mean to be rude or anything like that :p Reading what you've written makes a lot of sense .... I don't know much about the rest of your rig, but if you have multiple monitors and actually use the graphics card - I've got nothing to say against that. ;-)

I was just wondering how much of an actual difference in performance you'd get over an i7 and , say a 670 / 680 .

At least you haven't gone OTT and gone for a quad 690 SLI with Nitrogen cooling or anything like that.

It is a jolly good card though , and you're rig is now a best of a machine :) Have fun with it !

My previous card, a Radeon 7950, was the equivalent of a 670 or 680 and it achieved 35 FPS in Unigine Heaven benchmark with my current cpu. This one achieved 86 FPS without the cpu overclocked and the GTX 690 automatically overclocks itself based on the workload. Temperature wise it barely breaks into a sweat.i intend to have it permanently connected to my 32 inch TV and of course the extra power will give great resolution. Also I will not have to buy another GPU for a LONG time :)
