Power off phone without unlocking it first? Shutdown (POWER button long press) without unlock?

I'd like to be able to hold down the power button to turn off (power off) my phone....without unlocking the phone first. I currently have a 4 digit pin setup to unlock the phone. Any way to have a long press of the power button shut the phone down, regardless of the state of the phone and whether the phone is locked or not?

That would depend on what phone you have. My DX would allow for this, but I'm not sure that every phone does.

I know my DInc2 does it as I've had to do it more than once after I screwed around and locked it in knots.

Try holding the volume up, volume down, and power buttons all at once for 5 seconds. It's a semi-standard way of shutting off Android devices via button control.

Also, if you use a custom lockscreen (like widgetlocker), holding down power will let you shut off the device via the popup, unless you disable that.

I have an Atrix 4G. I can power off my phone w/o unlocking by pressing the power button once to have the phone exit sleep mode, press and hold and have the option to power off.

I have a Samsung Transform Ultra....holding the volume keys and the power key at the same time made the phone restart. Not exactly what I'm looking for, but still cool!
