If you press the gprs button off the mobile network is still running in the bagground... it doesn't seem to work at all... so how can you turn the gprs off?

It disables the GPS on the phone. All software requiring GPS (including navigation) will not be able to use it although some apps can use wifi or/and cell towers to get an approximation of your location. You should be able to toggle it using the built-in Power Widget or any 3rd party apps from the market.

OK everybody. I think I have made a mistake. I thought that the power widget-buttons came in this order:

    wifi - bluetooth - mobile network - sync(email sync?) - brightness

But it seems that the one I call mobile network(I thought that was GRRS) is in fact a button for turning GPS on and off?

So how do you turn off the mobile data connection?

    Wifi / bluetooth / gps / sync / brightness
That's the order, not mobile network.

Yeah I figured that, so how do you turn off the mobile network? Just turn off the sync and then it will not drain battery? It will autodisable when I turn on wifi, right?

You turn off the 'mobile network'...by going into airplane mode by long pressing the power button.

Then go into the power control widget and switch on any individual radios you might want like Wifi, GPS etc

Hmmm........The (talk+data) aka Verizion or mobile network can only be turned on and off. You cannot keep the talk on and data off. You can only switch those on and off together. IN airplane mode...both 3G and talk(voice) are off.

You can switch talk off and data on using what I mentioned in the previous post. Airplane mode + Wifi on.

    Hope this helps

No it doesn't because Verizon uses CDMA not GSM, CDMA only supports one type of connection used for both voice and data (EVDO or 1xxRTT). Also GPRS is a GSM standard, like EDGE or UMTS, not a complete "mobile network".
