Is there any way to prevent the 4.2 update and avoid the update nag screen? There is nothing in 4.2 that I want on my Nexus 7 and lots that I don't. I have been searching for 2 days now and can't find a way to stop the update notification.

If you have a custom recovery like cwm or twrp the update will just fail. Also, if you've removed any system files like chrome or such.

I still get the nag screen every 10 minutes or so telling me to update. How can I stop the nag screen.

I thought If it fails it won't bother you anymore.

Just out of curiosity what is the lots that you don't want? I know of some bugs but I am just curious.

I'm curious about this as well. I thought 4.2 was a huge improvement on my nexus experience.

I, for one, HATE 4.2. It's many aggravations and just plain changes-for-the-sake-of-changes (the clock for instance). It has broken flash for some of the browsers such as Dolphin 8.5.1. For me 4.2 has been a POS. I don't like the swype-like feature either--I prefer the Swype Beta instead. There is not a single feature that I feel is a "must have", at this point. I don't care about some of the features that others are rapturous over.

You aren't forced to use their new clock or the new features of the keyboard.

I felt for a long time that Google needed some new clock widgets. I wish they'd have a decent clock/weather widget though.

Multiple user accounts is huge for the tablet platform going forward. And quick settings? Schweeeeeeet :D

How do I get back the previous clock on the lock screen?

I've heard multi accounts makes the tablet VERY SLOW. as in nearly useless

Quick settings? I don't like that one has to KNOW that you must either pull down the left side, or the right side, to see notifications and settings which are separated. crazy, IMO. absolutely, stupendously, CRAZY. who comes up with these UI boners?

It makes perfect sense to me. Pull down where the notifications are displayed and you get notifications. Pull down where it displays battery/clock/WiFi/Bluetooth/airplane mode and you have an option to toggle them.

I was used to pulling down notifications on the right side of the screen. The first time that happened I thought "what the..." And then I realized the new options we had been given. Its now second nature to touch what you want to see.

If this can be confirmed, I will try it. I am running Clockwork so Ithink it should fail.

Biggest problem with 4.2 is that Stickmount (that's for reading and writing to a USB drive with an On The Go cable doesn't work (something to do with multi-user support - or an evil plan to prevent you from pushing everything you have to the Cloud. lol). I'm going to reinstall 4.1.2. For the Tablet (N7) I can do everything I want with apps so there's no real upside to upgrading at the moment.

Updating did fail!:D Now we will wait to see if the nagging stops.

I'm not rooted. Can I stop the update? What are these chrome files or such that you speak of?

Would you be so kind as to share how?

So why does everyone seem to hate the clock on the log screen it's just the hour bolded? Just can't seem to figure it out?

You have to tell it to install, then it fails. When I did, it rebooted to CWM, then CWM came up and asked if I wanted to install an untrusted zip. I said no and then just rebooted.

You have to be rooted to remove system files or the gapps that come with it,like chrome.

You would use an apps like root uninstaller or no bloat.

As for pushing to the cloud ... I plain don't understand. I use ES File explorer which gives me access to my shared Windows drives and Google drive ... haven't tried others.

No, not to a "key drive", at least not directly, but to the cloud, yes.

Nerd that I am, I'd like to have seconds on the clock ... where do you find how to either revert to the non-bolded hours or (and?) add seconds?

I think the only thing on the quick settings that has any value is the ability to switch users. The other stuff is just shortcuts. An app like Notification Toggle' has far more options and one-touch on/off for wifi, bt, gps, nfc, reboot, etc., etc. I would get rid of quick settings if I could.

This worked exactly as you stated. No 4.2 and no more nag screen.

Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but I've looked through settings and cannot find any way to go back to the old clock. So, yes, you are forced to use it, and I am also unhappy about that. If the first number weren't bold, I wouldn't care, but that just looks silly.

If there IS a way to go back, please share!

In the meantime, I've simply removed the clock from the lock screen and replaced it with my calendar.

I don't like the new lock screen clock either. Just doesn't look as good imo. I've gone back to 4.1.2 and unrooted/relocked the bootloader. Is installing a custom ROM the only way to stop the nag screen? - Or removing default apps as someone else suggested, thus re-unlocking and re-rooting the Nexus and losing all my stuff again which I've just put back on :(.
