Prevent power-on when open keyboard?

Is there a way to prevent the phone from "powering on" when the physical keyboard is opened?

Often my phone will slide open just enough in my pocket to activate the screen. This can then lead to the "Emergency Call" button being pressed. Fortunately I have yet to dial 911 from my pocket!

I'm thinking about using the "Widget Locker" lock screen however I'm concerned that my "pocket dials" will hit a widget or something once my lock screen has more items on it.
