How do I tell what screen type I have on my desire?

I cannot for the life of me find it listed anywhere.

    Cheers

    **Edit**

I should add that the reason for wanting to know is that I want to root the phone and understand the screen type is fairly important :)

If it's VERY new... it is more than likely super-tft (sony). That's what mine is.. but is american version. But, was almost positive they quit using the samsung amoled display due to huge shortages. There is better batt. life with the tft display... so that is a +.

Also, Don't think the screen has much to do with how to root, as much as what version the software on the phone is.... BOOT LOADER version and so on... Have been know to be wrong though... lol.

You could well be right...would be nice to confirm though. It is exactly 9 days old (but who knows how long it was waiting in the store...not too long I would assume, but you never know)

I got it unbranded and unlocked from O2 Germany and then immediately upgraded to Froyo before I did anything with it.

I seem to be disappearing into a loop when it comes to rooting, some say the boot loaded is the most important (0.93), some say this doesn't really matter now..then other threads refer to the screen type causing issues etc.

I want to try out some custom roms to tweak my experience, but want to make sure I have a full recovery method to get back to where the phone is now...

Well, that means it's SLCD! ;)

    I'm in Hamburg btw.

    My condolences that you're with O2! :p

Is that definite? Would be great to know for sure :)

I am happy with O2, 15 euro for flat internet is a pretty good deal to be honest. That and a 50 euro maximum phone bill on top with no base charges....I quite like it :)

How much are you paying for the actual phone over 2 years though, 20 Euro a month?

Yup - which means I end up paying 60 euro or so over the top of what I could have gotten it for by paying cash....but I don't mind that for the convenience :)

To each their own I guess...

I've got unlimited everything for 100 Euro, from Vodafone, and got my device for free. ;)

Yup, I looked at that...but I have 2 phones to consider..so O2 were (marginally) still my best choice.

The nice thing is that I am not tied in to 2 years for the sim contract..so I can jump ship at any point :)

Go to the Boot menu... If it's from the last 4-6 months or so... It's got to be s-tft. Mine is and it was software loaded back in may.

    That's a good deal then! :)

Getting back on topic, you have a SLCD, as Germany (and other places) were totally without Desires due to the AM OLED shortage.

Until I manage to do it, I can't say for sure...but all evidence certainly points that way :)

It's easy to do. Just look in the rooting forum at unrevoked. If you have 2.2 you need the latest 3.21 unrevoked.

Yeah, I spotted that, but people are talking about "big issues"...typically, noone actually alludes to what these "big issues" are though...

Same here. I like the extra options it opens up, but I'm too scared to try!

Well, I am just trying...but it isn't working with unrevoked 3.21 - Keeps telling me that it has failed to push the recovery and terminates

Maybe thats the "Big issues" people have referred to.

Did you follow a guide or just use the application?

Followed the instructions over at xda...

    Uninstalled HTC Sync
    Booted into recovery mode
Installed the Android USB Drivers from the unrevoked site
Rebooted phone and set USB Debug mode
Ran unrevoked - finds the desire, press OK - Says it is pushing the image and then says it can't and terminates.

Stupid question..do I need to have the phone at the bootloader to do it? I kept it booted normally as I presumed the USB Debug setting was only valid when the phone was booted fully...
