Root problem flashing Roms

Every time I try I get a 'boot failed' then 'error at line 390' installation failed, aborted etc. If I try to reboot it just sticks on the HTC incredible screen. I've tried using Rom manager and directly from recovery. Re downloaded files, I'm a newb so out of ideas. Saw another post like this in another phone section but it appeared unresolved. Any help appreciated.
Maybe related but any kernels I tried stick on the same screen?

Yeah, I wanted to try the skyraider Froyo Rom. I'll try another at random and see what pops up

No ideas, tried again no luck, is there a folder or something I need to create? Can Sd card cause this?
