Help Problem removing Verizon V Cast autorun

I've searched and reviewed all the threads here and elsewhere on killing that #$%@#$ V Cast autorun from Verizon that kicks in when you connect the phone by USB to the computer -- but when I try the recommended fix (starting with dial ##PROGRAM), I don't get anything from the phone after hitting Call. Nothing. The phone simply returns to the keypad for the phone app. I don't have the call identification app that some folks say blocks this, and am baffled as to what else to look at for troubleshooting. Any ideas? Thanks!
