Looks like I bite off more than I can chew.

Today, I rooted my phone and installed LFY 1.41 without a problem. I also installed Easy Root, SetCPU, Clockwork Recovery and no issues.

THEN I installed the Smoke Theme and that's when everything went wrong. I can't get into the phone at all. It boots up but I get lots of error messages ("This process %1$s has stopped unexpectly. Please try again") and I can't get into Clockwork Recovery to install the backup file. When I manually try the recovery (power + X), a get the "!" in a triangle and nothing happens. It will also reboot frequently.

I have my original ROM (stock) on my PC (and Droid) but the PC won't even read the Droid.

    Am I EFF'd? I'm a newb and I knew I should've stopped at LFY...

    Please help.

    I should've gone to sleep.

Don't know if I made things worse but this is what I did.
    1. I got Recovery access and attempted to reinstall LFY 1.41
    2. I wiped the data/ factory reset (went fine) then attepted to do the LFY install and that was aborted. Now it reboots over and over.

    I attempted to do this

I'm stuck at step 10 as it just reboots over and over...

I can remove the sd card and put it in my laptop if that makes a difference. At this point, I'm happy to get the phone running on regular 2.2.

Hope I'm not royally EFF'd. Now going to bed... UGH!

When you did this you were holding up on the d pad to get to the bootloader screen correct? It's different then the rec screen. Should be all back with a few white characters.

Yes, I got the bootloader screen to show up in step 7 (power + dpad) but now its reboots over and over and over when finished in step 10

What happens when you power on while holding 'x'? Do you still get the '!' triangle, or does it take you to sprecovery?

It takes me to the SPRecovery.

FYI, I have my original ROM (backup from Clockwork Restore) on the SD card (in some folder) and the LFY 1.41 also on the SD card as "update.zip".

Fixed this by going back to 2.0.1 found here. Although it a step backwards, OTA updates should take effect shortly and get me back to normal.

I now have a working phone. What a relief!

    Hope this helps out somebody.

    Get a PC.

From my hours of reading, try booting in recovery mode (power + x) and see if you can install your original ROM. If you get the ! in a triangle, hit volume up + camera button to get to the menu. From there, research.

Otherwise, use the link the post above to get your phone back from the dead and then start over with 2.0.1 - as if you bought it from the store. It was easy and rather quick (5-10 min).

I'm a serious newb so I would do your research before doing anything. I got lucky and fixed mine.

That one statement cannot be stressed enough.

Too many fools, and in particular n00bs who rooted their phones in a matter of minutes and think it is the easiest process in the world (I am not pointing a finger at you, GB), need to be aware that there are issues that can arise, and you need to be aware of them before you go about attempting to do this.

Point it!!! I definately earned it. It started out as getting rooted to remove some of the crappy bloatware.. then it spiraled into installing a new ROM and themes. It's TOO easy to get caught up in the moment and keep going for more.

Let me tell you, I got about 2.5 hours of sleep... mainly from worrying/being pissed of at myself for going too far. I may go back to being rooted in the future but I'm going to do A LOT more reading.... AND find someone with more knowledge to help me along.

HAHAHA That's awesome! I definitely belong there. :)

Not pointing at you - b/c you didn't come in here telling other folks that it is easy - you did the exact opposite - you advised them the same thing I always do - do the friggin research.

There are just a few things people need to know before rooting for everything to make a lot more sense. The one-touch root apps remove the need to know anything whatsoever (which is why I think they should only be used if you've rooted using older methods first or at the very least done some research).

    1. Understand what rooting is and why a phone isn't rooted from the factory. Apart from the fact that carriers and manufacturers want to maintain some control over what users can do for profit reasons, once you start messing around with system files it is easy to make your phone unstable or inoperable.

    2. Understand the relationship between the bootloader, the recovery software, and the OS. Learning some very basic linux and learning how to use the Android Developer Bridge software (known as adb - in the android SDK) will mean you can fix almost any problem.

    3. Understand that while there are some very polished ROMs out there, you really need to read into what it is you're putting on your phone. They are all made by independent developers and are not going to be as fool proof as OEM software. A lot of things are not compatible with each other as you found out by perhaps trying to apply a theme incorrectly.

EDIT: I just thought I would add this:

I was recently trying to fix the failing touch screen on my Droid, part of which involved me flashing another ROM. After formatting boot, system, cache, and data, I accidentally began to format the SD card before quickly pulling the battery, thus losing all my nandroid backups and countless pictures and other data. I know I'm not the first person to have done this but I was pretty pissed at making such a dumb mistake.

So I now have a Droid that has nothing on it except CWM Recovery. No operating system, no backups to restore, nothing.

The battery on the Droid was at 20% when this happened and I didn't have another sd card reader to read the card while I attempted to restore the data (which can take hours).

Long story short, after using all the knowledge I've gathered from this forum, and digging out my old blackberry to serve as a card reader I managed to get most of my data back and I'm back to where I was before without needing any help.

I think you may have done exactly what I did the first time. LFY 1.41 is actually just a patch for LFY 1.4. Just installing LFY 1.41 by itself does not install the full ROM, it only fixes a KB issue (that you never had if you were still running the stock ROM). Installing the smoked theme on top of the stock ROM will definitely wreak havoc.
Question, after you initially installed LFY 1.41 did the boot animation change? If it was still the red eye then you did not install the full ROM.

I speak from experience, "This process %1$s has stopped unexpectly. Please try again" brings back memories.

No the boot animation didn't change and the red eye was still there. Now I understand what happened. 1.4 first and then 1.41.

    Don't you mean nightmares? lol
