Problem with my screen

My dad gave me his old tablet a couple months ago (Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1) when he got a new one, and in the last few weeks I've noticed the screen getting a little weird.
It still works fine, but there's this splodge around the middle of the screen (looks a bit like gasoline when it's spilled on the ground at a gas station, like kind of faded rainbow colours?). You can't see it usually when the screen's showing something, but when it's a plain black screen or there's a reflection on the screen it's visible and annoying.
I couldn't be sure, but I think the area it covers is slightly bigger than it was a few weeks ago.

I took some photos of it

So I was wondering if someone could tell me what that is and whether anything can be done about it. I thought maybe it could be the display leaking liquid crystals or something if that's possible?

Thanks.

That looks like water or another liquid might have got in, and it's left a residue. Think the only thing to try is to disassemble it and clean it. alternatively it doesn't seem to be affecting the operation, so might just have to live with it. Haven't been keeping it in a damp place have you?

Another thing it could be is that sometimes the layers, the front glass, touch-screen digitiser and the LCD screen plus polarisers are bonded together, and there's a possibility they're coming apart.
