    Hi guys,

    First post here :D

I'm going to be purchasing my first smartphone soon, from T-mobile. I've got a fairly low budget (i.e. lowest number minutes possible + capped data plan).

I've got it down to my top two: the LG Optimus T and the Motorola Defy.

I've heard the call quality on the Optimus isn't great. Is this true?

The Defy looks pretty good, except that it's much more expensive than the Optimus (Free vs. $50 on Amazon). It's also running Android 2.1, but this isn't terrible.

    Anyone have any advice?

i will tell you straight up, no b.s.
get the t-mobile mytouch 4g, do not
mess with the other phones you listed.
you will be soooo happy if you
get the mytouch 4g, it is without a doubt
the best phone on the market right now, you
will love it. the motorolas use "motoblur" which
i think sucks, htc sense is awesome and very
    1st time user friendly.
you will not be sorry if you listen to me:)

^He's on a budget and the iphone would be too expensive.
edit:This was directed to the first response but still works for the post above lol.

Well, I don't know much about either phone, but if you are a clumsy person or hard on phones, I would suggest the Defy since it's more sturdy than your average smartphone.
If you're not a klutz, then save some money and get the Optimus.

well, you will buy one of the lesser phones, and be unhappy,
you will find a way to sell it (lose some money) and
buy the better phone, it always happens like that.
you might as well find the money and get the right phone or
you will be unhappy and lose all the way around.
    just trying to help:)

    I'm offended.

Just kidding, :p. That's basically what I was thinking, actually. I really can't think of when my phone would be going through much.

Wow is anyone listening to the OP he wants a decent mid-ranged device that will keep him within his bugdet. Not everyone wants or needs the best phones in the market.

On topic, I would go with the Optimus T, I've heard great things on that device. It's not going to be as snappy as most Androids go but it definitely seems to be a solid choice.

    Thanks. :D

Another question I had...is it possible the Optimus will get Gingerbread? Or is it too low-end?

If there is a mod community following for the device it will probably get it. Officially speaking, nobody really knows WHAT all is getting gingerbread except like 2-3 phones that has been announced.
