    Hey guys...

So here is my question. I am coming from a Palm Pre and will be switching to the EVO. I had an Instinct before the Pre. The instinct's browser was PUTRID...i used a Opera which was great. On the Pre, the default browser is snappy and exactly what is expected of a smartphone...no complaints.

I have seen a few different posts where people are stating they are gonna download opera or dolphin broswer for their evo..

so here is my question, are droid browsers so bad that people are getting third party software? Do we expect the evo's browser to be bad or is there something I am missing?

    tHanks in advance

I use the default browser on my hero and I really have no problems with it besides not being able to pull down my notification bar, but other than that no problems

Well, the old standby of "try them for yourself and make your own opinion" still fits. However, one I strongly suggest you try is Dolphin HD - just released. It's awesome, and if I were you it would be my first choice.

from my experience on the eris, as well as recent reviews i've read since then, it seems like almost all 3rd party browsers lag/aren't very smooth when it comes to pinch to zoom. that's a big problem if that's still the case.

IMO, the stock browser is just fine (I actually prefer it)!

How does the stock browser compare to the iphones? I'm sure many have used both. Sorry for all the questions comparing to iphone, but that's my frame of reference

It's all preference... my wife prefers the iphone browser while I hated it. I prefer the HTC stock browser and my wife, well, just refuses to use my phone.

Whoa. Just checked out Dolphin HD...that's one sweet looking browser! I'll definitely be trying it out although it's four times the file size of some other browsers.

Usually it isn't a problem with the stock browser, it's just some cool new feature that the new browser has that the stock one doesn't.

I'm looking forward to trying Dolphin and Skyfire.

Skyfire all the way for mobile browsing, at least until the new king is unleashed.

web browsing is the most important aspect of the evo to me. i'm looking forward to browsing on the 4.3 inch screen and hope it works well. the little bit of browsing i did on the incredible looked pretty good so i expect the evo to be better.

a couple questions for those familiar..

is the browser for the incredible seen as a "mobile" browser by most websites or do all sites just show up as full sites??

once the evo gets flash (ota update on the day of launch PLEASE!!!) how will these third party browsers deal with it? will they have to release new versions??

i played a little bit with opera mini on the iphone 3gs and it didn't render my fantasy baseball team screen right. i'm using opera mini for my tilt now and it's pretty good (everything is good compared to ie) but i wouldn't call it perfect.

Flash will more than likely be distributed much like it is on the PC, as a installable program or in this case app. It does not need any "special update" from Android or HTC, it serves it's purpose as a system wide run-time environment which would be able to execute any flash application in whatever program uses it.

I was wondering about browsers too cause I have read about Skyfire and my Touch Pro 2 now has Opera and pocket I.E. I am hoping the built in HTC browser works well but I may try the Dolphin also. If you like it better will you be able to make it your default so email links will open it up instead of your default one. I'll probably just use what comes with the phone but I am going to read up on the Dolphin one.

Dolphin HD made some nice improvements. I would rate Dolphin HD and xScope as the two best browsers. They both have pinch zoom and the ability to backup bookmarks.

You know, this is an intersting topic for me. The OEM web browser on the Touch Pro was Opera, which I loved compared to IE Mobile on my Mogul.

For anything that I wanted to stream, I would use skyfire (which, despite the claims of it using less battery, I personally have experienced that skyfire eats up more battery life since it actually pulls the full website information from a server). I'll still be downloading skyfire for streaming, just in case the Flash lite doesn't suit my needs for streaming sports.

Does Dolphin HD have flash? And isn't the built in HTC browser for the EVO suppose to have flash? I was just curious cause I keep reading about Dolphin HD and then X Scope which I've never heard of those but have heard of Skyfire from having my Touch Pro 2 but never tried it. I would maybe put one browser on my phone but space wise if one comes with it I don't know if I would need 2 or 3 more. But I read somewhere else that people like X Scope. Which one has tabs where I can have 2 or 3 pages open at once and just click a tab?

The stock browser is great and there are some awesome third party browsers on the market.

I find stock is the best all around browser but I turn off flash until I need it. Pinch to zoom, especially on 2.1, is very smooth and rendering is fast and accurate.

Dolphin had tabs which I love. I find the hd version is a little slow right now on rendering and didn't support flash yet but it's solid.

I really didn't dig skyfire or opera but opera did render super fast because of the caching.

All in all android is stacked in the browser area. There is something for everyone.

Well I have the touch pro 2 now with Opera 9. I can never get my browser to zoom and I don't even know if it's pinch to zoom or not but I tired it. My friend got it to zoom and I couldn't. So I hope I don't have a problem with this phone. LOL! I think I'll try Dolphin cause of the tabs but will use the stock one too..
